15-Year Development On An MMO Comes To An End

Even if you’ve never played it, you’ve probably heard of Asheron’s Call. A pioneering MMORPG, it’s been around for over 15 years now. And while it will still be around for a few more to come, AC’s developers have announced that they’re ceasing work on the game.

I know, I know. It’s probably news to you they were still working on it in the first place.

Turbine said in a statement last week that “players should have the expectation that updates will be limited to maintenance, bug fixes, and perhaps balance iterations”.

Now, this is normally the part where a studio starts talking about server closures, but to their credit Turbine say they’ll be keeping the game up and running. They’ll even be working with the community throughout the year to teach folks how to run their own servers.
