iFixit, the website that loves to take things apart, has come up with their own electronics refurbishment kit. And I really want one, even though I’d have no idea what the hell I’d be doing.
Priced at $US120, it includes pretty much everything you’d need to not just perform some basic repairs on something, but clean it as well. It’s been “specifically designed” to “service game consoles”, along with PCs, laptops, etc, and includes the following:
- 26 Bit Driver Kit
- Anti-Static Wrist Strap
- Dust Blower
- ESD Tweezers
- Plastic Spudger
- Metal Spudger Set
- Xbox 360 Opening Tool
- Cleaning Swabs
- Plastic Opening Tools
- Surface Detailing Block
- German Detailing Eraser with Brush
- Pencil Sharpener
- Small ESD safe Brush
- Large ESD safe Brush
-
1/4″ Driver Handle
- Phillips #2
- Flathead 6 mm
- Game Bit 4.5 mm
- Game Bit 3.8 mm
Sure, since you’d void your warranty opening your console up, this isn’t for everyone (PC guys, you’re obviously in the clear), but I’d like to see you try and resist those urges once you got a toolkit like this in your hands.
And if your console is already screwed? Well, what have you got to lose?

Except they don’t ship here. So more auto published stories with absolutely no relevance to Aussies.
Eh, you could make one of those yourself by going to bunnings or hobby electronic stores and buying the tools there probably end up costing less.
Before I saw your comment, i clicked the link to see how much it would cost this to ship here.. added it to my cart, went to checkout and said ship to Australia and my postcode and it quoted $35 for the cheap shipping or $105 for expedited shipping… so seems like they do ship here, or if I actually go to checkout will it say sorry but no then??
Edit: Spelling
$120 for about $30 worth of tools and a fancy box?

What if I don’t speak German?
