Teased earlier this month , Galactic Strongholds is the next major free expansion pack for Star Wars: The Old Republic, allowing players of the MMORPG to set up swanky digs across the galaxy.
Every massively multiplayer online role-playing game needs player housing, if only to keep players from having cybersex in public (sorry, EverQuest players on the Drinal server in early 2001). The Galactic Strongholds expansion for The Old Republic grants amorous players some really nice rooms, as well as giving Guilds their own Guild Flagships upon official launch.
The only question is who gets what first? I’m just going to cut and paste the subscriber benefits from the press release, because this stuff makes me dizzy.
Subscribers as of April 2nd will receive:
- 500 Bonus Cartel Coins
Subscribers as of May 4 th will receive:
- 1,000 Bonus Cartel Coins
Subscribers as of May 11 th will receive:
- Early Access to Galactic Strongholds on June 24
- Luxurious Nar Shaddaa Stronghold with three additional rooms unlocked (Value: 1,500,000 Credits)
- Stronghold Label: “Galactic Stronghold”
- Character Title: “The Illustrious”
Subscribers beginning June 24 th will receive:
- Early Access to Galactic Strongholds on June 24
- Luxurious Nar Shaddaa Stronghold Unlocked (Value: 250,000 Credits)
- Stronghold Label: “Galactic Stronghold”
- Character Title: “The Illustrious”
Preferred Status Players beginning July 29 will receive:
- Early Access to GalacticStrongholds on July 29
- Stronghold Label: “Galactic Stronghold”
- Character Title: “The Illustrious”
In other words, you should probably subscribe if you want the best digs. I want a nice place with extra rooms so I can film a wacky Star Wars roommate sitcom.

I actually might go back to playing it casue of this.
urghh……… must….. not…… resub………… urgh…………………
So, what do I get as an original buyer and subscriber? Hit 50 with my Commando just after launch but stopped soon after. In general, what do the original sub’ers get?
You’re considered “Preferred Status”. Which is a little better than straight f2p players, but still missing most of the stuff current subscribers get. It’s pretty much the rank anyone who has bought anything in the game gets.
I kinda wish they’d just made the starships more customisable… or maybe even let us trade them in for new ones of a different design.
Seems kind of stupid considering we already have freakin’ spaceships…
