The Newest Star Wars Video Game Comes Out Today

If you've ever wanted to make C-3PO part of an elite strike force, now's your chance.

Disney continues to roll out collectible card games with Star Wars branding on them, with today's release of Star Wars Assault Team. It's a free-to-play game for mobile and PC with in-app purchases, where you have to deploy rosters of familiar Star Wars heroes against enemy squads:

Build and Customise a Team:Collect hundreds of character cards to create the ultimate team using such heroes as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Boba Fett, and more.

Advance Heroes: Train, improve and strategically deploy each character's special attacks, making a team even more dominant against ever-powerful enemies.

Player vs. Player Combat:Fight against other players in PvP battles to win extra rewards.

Original Story: Complete all-new missions set between Star Wars:Episode IV A New Hope and Star Wars:Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

Force Collection, the game that preceded Assault Team, was pretty dull . Hopefully, Assault Team nudges things along a little bit. It's available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone stores.

Its official release was today? I've been playing the Android version that was on Google store for over a month.

It's not too bad but sometimes it is really buggy - particularly with losing your energy and not launching missions. The worst part is that there is a lot of grinding (aka training missions to complete) to level up so that you can manage the main storyline.

Another positive, it's all original trilogy - no prequels, no Jar Jar.

I've been playing the iOS release since this morning, it's not bad. About 2 hours of play and it hasn't even mentioned in-app purchases let alone "needed" them. It needs a bit more proof-reading (eg the AT-P...somecrap has the description for the AT-ST), and as mentioned above it's pretty grindy (even though I finished the first set of missions on regular and harder difficulty I'm still having trouble getting through the second set), and it doesn't really explain some stuff (eg the card Tier & promotion system was only mentioned AFTER I managed to do it by myself). Also I'm kind of annoyed at the card descriptions, they're very prequel-centric (the Stormtrooper description talks about Clone Troopers, Boba Fett's talks about Jango, etc instead of focusing on original trilogy-centric information).

But anyway, it's free and it's a bit of fun, so if you're looking for something to play then give it a go. Though it does chew battery, I managed to get down to 28% from 100% without noticing...
