Let's Listen To All Of Our Favourite Video Game Music

It's Friday afternoon. I'm a bit bored and I went down the rabbit hole. This particular rabbit hole is a rabbit hole filled with all the best video game music I can think of. Basically I'm on YouTube and I'm never coming back. I thought this might be something we can do together: in the comments below I want you to copy and paste a link to your all time favourite piece of video game music. Oh man, this is going to be great...

The game doesn't have to be good, just the music. It can be anything. It can be something you're nostalgic about, something that reminds you of an awesome gaming experience — anything.

I've posted my personal favourite above. It's a weird one, but I love it. At the point in this game when this music is played (super early on) I was convinced this Zelda would be the Zelda game I was hoping for. Sadly it sort of all went downhill after that. Regardless, I'll always love this piece of music to death.

Alright — let's hear your favourites!

Chrono Trigger Marle's theme for me.
Corridors of Time runs a close second

Chrono Trigger might -- pound for pound -- have the best soundtrack of any game ever.

You beat me to chrono trigger :/
i just got the sound track off ebay monday.
      well worth 50$

Well, I always loved the original F-Zero soundtrack.

Here's an OC Remix and one of my favourite pieces of music ever : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8T60eY6wzY

(My wife and I had this playing in the background when we got married last year. Was awesome!)

      Haha, that is so cool.

Although for me, F-Zero X will always be number one :P

I loved that game. Was the Wii's swan song for me. I will admit my opinion is possibly swayed by the season of my life I was in at the time.

I agree. Skyward Sword copped so much flak, but I honestly can't understand it. I thought it was absolutely brilliant from start to finish, except maybe the repeated boss battle with the Imprisioned.

Skyward Sword definitely ranks up in the top 5 Zelda games of all time, in my opinion.

Bought the soundtrack edition about 9 months ago, still haven't played it yet.

Over and over and over and over and over and over again. Until the ghost shows up, and then it's over and over and over and over and over and over again, but faster!

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is my new favourite soundtrack at the moment.
Zip Line Shrine's music is pretty great:

Wing Ding is another good one:

    Grim Fandango: http://www.grimfandango.net/?page=soundtrack
Max Payne 3 had a fantastic soundtrack but I think my #1 of all time would be Red Dead Redemption.

It's..It's too hard to choose just one. But I suppose every song in all the Zelda games for starters and to name a few.
Shadow of the Colossus The Opened Way
The Last of us Main Theme

The NieR soundtrack is pretty damn good too.

Yeah, The Last of Us main theme is really sad and memorable. Damn good!

    This track from Spider-man 2.

I love this Journey track, Apotheosis - it really combined perfectly with the gameplay in that last level and gave me such lovely feelings in my brain. I don't know if it has the same power disconnected from the actual journey or without having played the game though.

Edit: Also Cara Mia Addio from Portal 2 was on a loop in my ears for a few weeks after finishing that game: http://youtu.be/kis6V6qwYxI

In a more bombastic mood I'd link to different tracks, but for today...

    FF6: Searching for Friends
There's other FF6 tracks I'd praise higher, but none better in the context of the very first time you hear it.

Chrono Cross: People Imprisoned By Destiny
A more sombre boss battle there never has been.

    Chrono Trigger: Zeal Palace
    Foreboding. This has it.
A magical cloud kingdom! Hopeful music! Then THIS.

      I always enjoyed the battle music from FF6, such as;
      The Decisive Battle

Donkey kong country sound tracks.(any david wise ones)
    Deus ex Gotye.
    And Mother series. (Earthbound)

Silent Hill theme song is pretty rad, first thing that came to mind... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eds1ivwq1oc

Oh and of course Scott Pilgrim vs the World :3

The Neverhood had some really damn good music.
...I should probably get to finishing it.
Oh, and on the topic of Skyward Sword, who could forget the theme of the objectively best character in the game?

Boy I do like me some original game compositions. Rattling off few

From the Uematsu side of things

Suteki Da Ne (Orchestral) - FF-X
    Liberi Fatali - FF-8
And what is probably his best work which no one will ever mention is a lot of what he did on Lost Odyssey - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jps-lgNX2Y

    Jeremy Soule

Just kind of... anything he's done. Icewind, Guild Wars, Elder Scrolls etc...

Kinuyo Yamashita of course for the original Castlevania Soundtrack.

People are right to think of Chrono Trigger, but Yasunori Mitsuda also did damn fine work on Chrono Cross (The Forrest of Cutting Shadows is a personal favourite - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcIZtREgbsE)

For whole soundtracks, I often listen to the "Descent 2" redbook tracks while working. Helps me maintain a good pace. Also any of the earlier "Need For Speed" soundtracks, before they started using licenced music. I also like the "Bastion" and "Neverhood" soundtracks.

Purely for theme songs, I love "Monkey Island", "Max Payne", and I can't get enough of "Pirats 'til we Die" from "Raskulls".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4lwpYLlVvM So good...Such an uplifting track to kill Bosses!

I'm more of a metal head, but going through FFX remastered has given me a new appreciation for this one.

Say what you will about what Square has done to the series, the music is always top notch.

The Last of Us soundtrack in general was amazing. My personal favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3o_RwQysgA8
When this song played in the credits I got a lil bit teary.
    I cried a lot

To Zanarkand from FFX, its a beautiful song

Too many to list! A few off the top of my head:

    Invincible; World of Warcraft (link)
Setting Sail, Coming Home; Bastion (link)
God Only Knows; Bioshock Infinite (link)
    Town; Diablo (link)
I am the One; Dragon Age: Origins (link)
To Zanarkand; Final Fantasy X (link)
Fear Not This Night; Guild Wars 2 (link)
M4 Part II; Mass Effect (link)
Deadman's Gun; Red Dead Redemption (link)

This track is probably the best composition ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSsfjHCFosw

DC made me remember yesterday that I really really loved the Mushroom Men soundtrack. Can't think of a particular favourite song, but they're all pretty good. Also I'm pretty sure that basically no one else bought or played this game.

House of the Dead: Overkill was quite possibly my most favourite soundtrack on the system.

Although if it's not beaten by them, then both of the de Blob games certainly come close.

House of the Dead had one of the best soundtracks ever. So amazing.

F-Zero X. And there's this "Guitar Arrange Edition" version of the soundtrack that is just pure *awesome*.

Absolutely love listening to that in the car. Just a shame they don't have some of the songs like Sand Ocean of White Land on there (I think). Also I would really love to hear these kinds of versions of the extra songs from the Expansion Kit. If I found a genie in a bottle or similar wish-granting device...

      Hey Gooky,

I've been doing a few 'net searches because I've just put a copy of de Blob 2's soundtrack up on eBay. These are pretty rare. I got mine while working at BlueTongue when the game was released.

Sorry if this seems in poor taste. I noticed you've posted about the soundtrack a few times, so I thought I'd give you a heads-up.

Not at all, that's very awesome of you!

However I'm actually lucky enough to already have one - Chris Wright, I think it was, replied back to a bit of last-minute fanmail I sent in the day it was announced you guys got shut down (I'd been meaning to get around to it for ages...). He mentioning that they still had some copies of the album lying around and offered to send me one of them. So cool of him, I couldn't believe it.

Best of luck with the auction though. A few of my friends might be interested so I'll pass the word around.

Very cool! We had half a box or so left last time I saw them, so I'm glad you managed to get your hands on one. Cheers!
