Ever wondered how those classic Nintendo DS games that were not entirely 2D would look in HD, upscaled to 720p? One talented Japanese fan experimented with the games and the system, managing to render them in a higher resolution than their native setting. You can check some of his results below.
They’re a huge source of PS1 nostalgia.
Note: The creator used emulation to get his results, but you should only try this yourself if you’ve already purchased these games. They deserve it. Now let’s continue to marvel at their gorgeousness.
The top pic is from Dragon Quest IX. The one below is Elite Beat Agents:

Am I the only one who thinks these older games done in “HD” like this look worse than the original version?
Nah, I think they look great! I’m just stoked that people continue to be able to do these kinds of things for old systems – it really breathes new life into older games.
The amount of detail in those textures is somewhat unbelievable, considering how small a resolution screen the DS screen had. Metroid Prime Hunters in particular looks stunning.
It’s pretty amazing what is hiding under that gorgeous mess of pixels on DS screens 🙂
I dunno, to me all the overly clean and sharp edges of the polygons just don’t look right. Like all the emulator screenshots you see of Mario 64 or something. It just seems off.
Its because it is off, haha 🙂 They weren’t really meant to be seen at this kind of res. Slap some texture filtering on these, and the improvement will be tenfold. But each to their own, eh?
I think someone dunned goofed. Or do I just not remember the PSX the same way as everyone else?
