The WWE is reporting that The Ultimate Warrior (born James Brian Hellwig), has passed away at the age of 54. Just days ago, he was present at Wrestlemania 30.
He is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.
I haven’t been into wrestling for over 15 years, but when I was a kid, damn. His fight against Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI was one for the ages.
UPDATE – TMZ reports that he “collapsed outside an Arizona hotel…while walking to his car with his wife”. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

I just watched him on Raw yesterday. This is so sad. A true legend of the business 🙁
Edit: I’m gonna rewatch his speech on Last nights Raw when I get home. I wonder if they knew he was in his final days. Was quite an emotional speech.
I just rewatched it then and it is eerie to say the least, However he apparently just collapsed on his way to his career and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
In my craziest Warrior voice:
“May his spirit live through the stars, like a glistening locomotive made out of space suns, and then we will all know the power of the Warrior, and his legendary incoherent dribble, and his arm bands that made him look like a girls bike, for all forever eternity. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”
Seriously the Warrior was awesome when I was young. RIP.
Used to love watching him and Hogan as a kid on the WWF. A pity him and Hogan had a major falling out later in life, but damn. Such a pity.
Him and Hogan were the two wrestlers that got me into the sport. RIP.
So, not trying to be a troll, but what is this kind of a thing doing on Kotaku? Gaming articles, sure, tech articles, sure, stuff from japan, some of it, okay, but wrestling?
I apologize if I offend anyone, I just seem to be missing a link somewhere.
Saturday: Inducted into Hall of Fame with a 40 minute speech
Sunday: present at Wrestlemania 30
Monday: Live on RAW
Tuesday: dead? wtf?!
He was my favourite as a kid. It was a bit of a shock in later life to learn he was a complete nut and quite the dick.
The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior is a doco about him
When I saw him in the WCW days, he was a mess with that stupid One Warrior nation crap.
Even after all the negatives, he will always be my favourite WWF wrestler.
That “doco” is such a hatchet job on the bloke.
Not saying it’s not deserved, I honestly have no idea but he just gets written off by everyone he ever worked with and they don’t interview him at all.
It’s like if you left a job so all your old co-workers decided to put together a documentary about your life and what a cock you were without interviewing you at all.
It’s still entertaining though!
Grain of salt for sure, and not exactly even. But he was asked to be involved and turned it down. Watching his YouTube channel and I used to follow on Twitter, he’s a nut.
Yeah it has to be remembered that the “doco” was done by the WWE at a time when there were serious issues between Vince and Warrior. It’s basically propaganda by the WWE.
Not to say he wasn’t a bit nutty but I would take that doco with a huge grain of salt.
