Despite having been out for a little while now, over the past 24 hours we’ve received a number of complaints from users saying that Thief has suddenly developed a nasty game-breaking bug.
Likely the result of a recent update, the bug is stopping people from progressing past Chapter 4 in the game.
We contacted Eidos and were told the following:
We’re aware of an issue that seems to be affecting some Thief players, preventing them from completing some levels. We’re taking this very seriously — as a first step we’re reading as many reports of the issue as possible, working to replicate it internally, so that we can understand what’s causing it. We’re sorry for any disruption to your game today, and we’ll update you as soon as we have more information.
If you’ve just got the game, you might want to hold off getting to the end of Chapter 4, at least until there’s a fix.

I’ve only got up to chahpter 2 so far (been busy with other games), so I’ll make sure to not keep playing it until they release yet ANOTHER patch. Really getting sick of the size and frequency of patches with this gen. It seems like every time I want to play a game on my Xbone, there’s a bloody update for it.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The internet is the WORST thing to ever happen to video games. I remember games being so much better before the internet came along.
Except games were significantly less complex ‘before the internet’.
Yep, if you want to go back to 10 hours of single player side scrolling which never changes then you’re more than welcome.
Big patches suck, but they’re an unfortunate side-effect of much longer, better, more dynamic experiences.
I remember when WWF No Mercy had a similar save bug back in the day.
I had to mail the f*cking thing to THQ and it took WEEKS to get a replacement cartridge.
I’ll take the annoying download thanks.
lol! I remember Doom took 5 or 6 – 3.5″ floppies!
From what I’ve been reading this is caused by simply playing on April the 1st.
I’m really hoping that the developers didn’t set the game up to “steal” your saves on April Fool’s Day, but it’s starting to look that way. If it was an “April Fool’s” joke, It’s a pretty shitty joke.
Might be a poorly coded April Fool’s Easter egg that accidentally breaks the game.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
LOL what a great quote!
