My 3 Favourite Games For Every Single Console I've Ever Owned

Lists are fun, so here's what I've decided to do: I've decided to list every console I've ever owned and then write my three favourite games for every single one of them. This list is super personal, it's about as far from definitive as you could possibly go. It's not about what games have aged well, it's purely about the games I enjoyed most in that moment, according to my fragile memory.

Please enjoy! And if you want to create your own list, drop them in the comments below.

Note: I left the Wii U, Xbox One and PS4 out because it's just too early to make any real judgements.

      You did a PC list!
It’s eternal (kinda) nature means it’s damn near impossible to narrow it down to 3.
Honestly, I’d struggle to nail it down to 3 in most genres!

Is Fallout 2 better than Fallout 3?
      Is Quake better than Doom?
      Warcraft 2 vs Starcraft?
      Half Life vs Deus Ex?
Is Baldur’s Gate better than everything else (yes).

The other machines are pretty easy in comparison.

Yeah I know, I did my best though for the sake of completeness. Though IMO Quake was better than Doom and Starcraft was better than Warcraft 2.

Oh I agree that those games are better, but were they better for their time?
Doom 2 was better than Doom, but you won’t see it on many people’s top game lists.
Just the same as Starcraft 2 is better than Starcraft but I wouldn’t put Starcraft 2 above it on my “all time favourites” list.

The thing with PCs is that they span not just individual series, but genre defining ideas that grow and evolve across multiple franchises constantly. Picking a single game in an evolutionary branch can be really hard.
If I broke my top-5’s down into 5 year spans for example I’d have Bioshock in there for 2005-2010… but I’d also have Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and the original System Shock in for their respective time periods. All from the same evolutionary branch.

If I had to pick 1 to go into an all time top 5 though….. I think I’d scratch a hole in my head trying to work it out.

Fallout 2. Doom. Starcraft. Deus Ex. No.

All of these answers are objective and authoritive. No further correspondence will be entered into.

Oh wow... You're the first person I've come across that also owned an Intellivision!
Shark! Shark! was awesome.... The console on the other hand, not so much.

        I loved my Intellivision.

Well, except the horribly unergonomic controller. And the fact that it got so hot you could probably fry an egg on it. And the fact it was huge and you needed to add even more stuff to it like the voice module to play some games.

But hey it was awesome :P With advertising like this how could you choose anything else?

Rainbow Islands was one of my fave games of the same generation - I had an Amstrad CPC 464. That music is still instantly-accessible in my head.

I only owned Playstation, and I didn't have that many games.

    3, -
    PC (If it counts)
    1. Starcraft 2
    2. Mass Effect 3
    3. Counter-Strike Source

I could have disagreed with you on every single one of those, but seeing LocoRoco as the number on on PSP would have made me forgive you no matter what.

The fact that Chrono Trigger is missing from your snes list makes me doubt your gaming street cred.

The SNES is too stacked. Too many amazing games on that console.

I mean, I left out Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore.

Don't do honourable mentions! Stick to yer guns.

Stop it! You're getting me all nostalgic and giving me the urge to go back and play these kick ass games. I don't have the time damn it! Let's just say CT was your 4th favourite and just missed the cut off.

...FFVI, Mario RPG, Mario Kart, Battletoads, Megaman X, Star Fox, Donkey Kong Country 2, Seiken Densetsu 3, Tales of Phantasia and Magic... we could keep going. Truly, the golden ages.

Have a look at Mark’s top 3 PSP/ Vita games and tell me that Sony isn’t completely retarded when they keep selling their handhelds as high-end graphical powerhouses.
So much for “Console games in your pocket”…..all their best games are indie/ fairly simple looking (but inventive) mobile games and RPGs.

I don’t see a mobile version of a massive console franchise on that list….

It’s also a bit sad for the poor Xbox that it got Halo games in the tops two spots. A little understandable though, Halo was brilliant and Halo 2 was a big enough leap for it to be it’s own thing.
Personally I would have put KOTOR and Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on there.

Knights of the Old Republic. Dammit. I forgot about that.

This isn't going to spill into a 'Top 10 games list, oh crap I forgot *insert title here*, better make it a Top 25 list then' type thing is it?

For the next few generations of consoles Mark just play 3 games per console then your choices will be simple

Haha its pretty hard to remember all the great games for every console. Donkey Kong would to to be close on the snes as well.

So glad you put resident evil on the ps1. That game ... wow

Answers for all future singtakus: sorted.

      Soul Calibre
      Uhhhh…. Crazy Taxi?

Blue Stinger was a good game. There was a version of Dino Crisis and Soul Reaver on there too.

There’s a few good games that you could arguably put into that 3rd place (you could argue the other 2 as well I suppose, but you’d be wrong).

Toy Commander, Power Stone, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5… that’s without listing all the great (for their time) arcade titles like Sega Rally 2 and House of the Dead 2.

Oh yeah...Power Stone, how could I forget that? And Sega Rally 2...

    Gameboy Color
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
    Wario Land 2
    Pokemon Silver

    Duke Nukem 3D
    Theme Hospital
    Return To Castle Wolfenstein
(also equally: Doom, SiN, Warcraft 3, Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis)

    Playstation 1
    Metal Gear Solid
    Final Fantasy VIII

    Playstation 2
    Resident Evil 4
    Star Wars: Battlefront II
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

    Xbox 360
    Battlefield 3
    Spec Ops: The Line
    Fallout 3

    Playstation 3
    Dark Souls 2
    The Last of Us

      Man… your list sucks!

Haha, just joking. You’ve got some very agreeable picks.

Seriously though….. SiN? As your number 1 PC game of all time?
My best mammary or that game…. sorry memory….. was the huge 500mb+ patches that it needed to be fundamentally playable (back in the days of dial-up).
      That and the huge boobs.

Haha they're not in order of preference, my PC days are long behind me so it's a little hard to pick.
