Probably Not The New Soul Calibur Game You Were Waiting For

Awesome: a new Soul Calibur game is out today! Not awesome: it’s a collectible card game made for touch-screen devices.

Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with CCG titles or touch-screen games. Just look at Hearthstone. But, Soul Calibur: Unbreakable Soul looks like it’s taking the most fun part of the weapon-centric martial art series, namely the split-second combat and strategy that tests a player’s reaction time.

Taking all the series’ glorious weapons and characters and slotting them into free-to-play offering may make business sense but it’s not what won the franchise its fan-favourite standing. Heck, it’s not even launching with a Versus Mode, as the official page says that crucial feature is yet to come. If you’re curious, Unbreakable Soul‘s out today on the App Store.
