Throwing the hammer or the javelin might have made sense in ancient times, but we don’t live in ancient times. We live in the modern times with modern things to chuck around. You know, like computer servers.
Recently, tech company Speedlink Japan held its Engineer Olympic Games in Tokyo. The point of the competition is to “liven up the engineering industry” by having engineers from different companies competing in various athletic events, the most interesting of which was the “Server Toss.”
As website Netorabopoints out, the engineers attempted to see who could throw computer servers, which weigh between 20kg and 30kg, the furthest.
While each server costs around 5000 bucks, do realise that, as Netorabo points out, these are servers that can no longer be used. So, yeah, they’re apparently not throwing new, working hardware around.
In the clip below, you can see a server toss in action. Is it too late to get this in the next summer Olympics?

Seems like a pretty big waste. We donate our servers when we no longer need them.
“these are servers that can no longer be used” would imply that they are either broken, or so badly outdated that they are considered useless
My overkill senses sense that someone may either do a macross missile server massacre with the old servers on front or launch old servers with a trebuchet, man there is no kill like overkill
I think I would get some satisfaction from throwing a decommissioned server that has been troublesome over it’s lifetime.
That said, the only old server I have at the moment is a big old System P5 that I’ve recently decommissioned, that might be a little heavy to throw, think I’d hurt myself
Wow. Such an old sport
I remember playing this in school twice a year for rankings of who got to use the brand new P4s almost a billion years ago
