Nevermind Unicron, Angry Birds Transformers Is Coming

Autobirds wage their battles to destroy the evil forces of the Deceptihogs. It’s not bad comedy — Rovio and Hasbro have combined forces to form Angry Birds Transformers.

I knew this was coming. The moment Hasbro and Rovio first teamed up for Angry Birds Star Wars 2 with those interactive Telepod toys, I knew it was only a matter of time before Angry Birds Transformers were a thing. In fact, back in January there were some leaked images of Angry Birds Transformers Telepod toys, which my Hasbro reps declined to comment on. I guess they’ll be commenting on them soon enough.

Angry Birds Transformers will be a game. It’ll be Telepod toys. It’ll be all sorts of official merchandise, much of it aimed at the fans of the original series who are now lugging around iPads and Android tablets and need something to do in the bathroom. While timing on the game release is up in the air, the toys will be out later this year, and since they feed into the game, it stands to reason it’ll be out as well.

“We’re really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds,” said Blanca Juti, Chief Marketing Officer of Rovio via official announcement. “This mash-up is going to appeal to both those who grew up with the brand in the 80’s, as well as fans of the brand today. People are going to love it!”

I don’t know. I probably will, but some Transformers fans might see this as further cheapening of the brand, but look on the bright side — at least they’re doing the original Transformers, and not the Michael Baybots… yet.

Hold up. Why is Daniel a pig?

Well now they’ve ruined everything.

Look for Angry Birds Transformers to hit app stores soon and be all over the damn place by the end of the year. If the toys aren’t on display at San Diego Comic Con next month, I’ll eat a whole box of energon goodies.
