Guillermo del Toro is getting his kaiju on once again, and we’ll see the results in a few years — Pacific Rim 2 is coming in 2017.
April 7, 2017, to be specific. Del Toro is also working on an animated Pacific Rim series to be released before then.
“The characters I love will return,” del Toro said in a statement to BuzzFeed. “Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau — but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”

HECK YES!
Oh. Well. I logged in to something similar but a lot stronger… but I guess there’s not really any need for th-PSYCHE!
FUCK YES!
The question is, will the interestingly decided side-mechs get offed in a single fight again? Poor Cherno. ;-;
Sweet! Can’t wait.
Just found out about his next film The Book Of Life, an animated movie with the voices of Ron Perlman, Ice Cube, Cheech Marin, and Danny Trejo, yes please.

He’s only producing that, not writing or directing.
The next one he’s actually making himself is Crimson Peak, which I think is currently in production and due out next year.
Can’t wait loved the first one way better Kaiju movie then the new godzilla
AWWWWW YEAAAAAHHHHHHH.
The hype train goes WOO WOO!
should be super awesome
STRIKER EUREKA REPORTING IN
I felt a great disturbance in the force…. Now I know what it was.
You’d think people would learn from all the transformers garbage.
I’m not sure what it is you’re trying to imply here. That Bay’s transformers movies are bad or that pacrim was.
both
…were AWESOME!
not exactly what I was thinking =P
So excited and so glad that he was given a chance to do a sequel based on international numbers. Screw the bloody Americans and their terrible taste in films.
Agreed, it made it’s money back and then some in international waters, but it’s always the way … it didn’t make BaJillions in the U.S so its a flop, so annoying.
They chose to watch Grown Ups 2 instead so yeah… goes to show just how great a baseline that market is sometimes…. -_-
AWESOME DUMB ROBOT MOVIE 2!!
And a cartoon, sweet.
Confession: I only saw Pacific Rim recently and one of the things I enjoyed the most about it was that it was an all-inclusive epic, which didn’t necessitate or even feel like it left any room for a sequel. Seems rare and special these days that a movie be awesome in its own right instead of being part of a larger franchise.
True, but this doesn’t change that. Rim was both it’s own movie, and a world deployment. If other movies can create individual stories within that world, all of which are self contained without reliance on other titles, we should celebrate because we so fucking need an example of how to do that again. It could be the new hope of cheesy robot fighters, so to speak.
Pacific Rim is not poetry in motion and it’s definitely not gonna be the crowning jewel in 21st century film-making however it’s a fun movie that’s exactly what I expected to see and what I wanted to see.
It’s so clearly self aware it has the cliche giant robots, cliche end of the world aliens, cliche dialogue and ‘friendship/working together’ themes but it doesn’t care and stays true to its cheesy giant robot roots.
