This is going to be vague, but it’s too intriguing not to share. During my interview with PlayStation’s North American marketing VP, John Koller, we were talking about exclusive perks for PlayStation 4 owners for multi-platform games and we got to the topic of GTA V.
We’d just discussed how Activision and Bungie’s Destiny game, which is also coming to Xbox platforms, is getting an exclusive alpha and early beta on PlayStation.
We’d just discussed how, according to what a Ubisoft rep had told me, there won’t be exclusive PlayStation content for Assassin’s Creed Unity, which is a break from the norm.
And then we got to Rockstar’s baby, GTA V. Sony had announced on Monday night that the new-gen version of the 2013 Xbox 360 and PS3 game was coming to PS4. A Rockstar press release later indicated the new high-res version would be coming to Xbox One and PC this fall as well:
Kotaku: I there anything to that particular deal or that particular offering that will make it better-suited to play on PS4 instead on any other platforms?
Koller: I don’t think we announced anything publicly on that, but there will be. I think GTA V is a title that did extremely well on the PlayStation 3. In fact… the index rate… — the index rate is the amount of people who purchase one platform or the other relative to the install base — it swung well in PlayStation’s favour for GTA V, a lot of it because of the partnership we had with Rockstar. We would expect that to happen here, too. GTA is a PlayStation franchise. It started with us. We really feel strongly that it belongs as a key platform driver for us.
Kotaku: You’re saying that you can’t say what it is, but that there will be something special for PlayStation owners?
Koller: GTA V is going to be, I think, a title we’ll talk about more in the weeks and months to come, but GTA V and the GTA franchise is something that will be something very special on PlayStation.
I’ve reached out to Rockstar to see if they can share anything more about whatever Koller was referring to. And please temper expectations. Koller could be talking about exclusive DLC, timed exclusives or, hell, a free year of PlayStation Plus for anyone who buys GTA V on PS4. It’s hard to say.

I really dont see the point of only one side getting exclusive bonus content.
its better if all platforms would get some exclusive gear, news like this makes me not want to get it on next gen now.
I have a PS4 but I want this for PC for potential mods.
Now I have to choose, PC, Which, given the quality of GTA IV’s port I don’t have high hopes for it, but it will get mods which will (hopefully) make up for the port quality or PS4 with extra content. Shity. Real shitty.
Guys like you who ruin a game by modding it just another sad coward who can’t create on their own
Uh… I have my own game… Also using mods can be fun and increase the longevity of a game. I respect that you obviously don’t like it, but I’m aloud to like it. No need to resort to petty name calling and judgement.
Also, how does modding a game ruin it? It’s not the same as hacking it. Even if it was, I finish a play through before modding it. Unless it’s a game like Dark Souls on PC that is unplayable without mods.
How is it better? Isn’t it good enough that they are porting it? If a PC version comes out then all the best gear will be exclusive.
I see what you mean. I have a ps4 and Xbox one and I want to get it on both and do a review… But I can only review certain dlc on PS4
This happened with call of duty, it started strong on the pc, then it became the Xbox got all the dlcs first. I think it’s fare, GTA is PlayStations

Hope it’s just timed exclusives. Hate this shit personally. Buying it on X1 to play with friends again, PC for modding and now I have to buy it on ps4 for content I’ll miss out on.
Commitment.
Huge R* fanboy. Can’t help it. I don’t buy multiple licenses for all games but for the greats that I want a sequel/more like it I buy multiple times. Looking at my steam, xbl and psn profiles, there is a lot of overlap. For me it’s about value for money, I spent over 500 hours in Skyrim across multiple platforms and I’ve easily spent that in GTA online with spending a cent more that the collectors 360 edition. I want to show my appreciation for the effort R* have gone to. Have more money. But 3 more times is a bit too much, I was happy to buy it 2 more times, but 3 just to play all the content bothers me.
Really I should be thanking them for not making it a Watch_Dogs like cluster fvck of exclusives and dlc. Just got x1 base game. Wait it’s the ANZ edition, not base game.
Look to be honest, I’m so tired of it, that if it’s anything more significant than an online skin, I just wont buy it. I’m already pretty jaded that I bought GTAV for 360 and multiplayer is still fucked, as well as heists, a feature advertised on the damn game box, still doesn’t exist.
So go on Rockstar, I dare you, make me a little more jaded and see if you get my money!
I can see that side, but I still have great fun in my daily hour of GTA Online. I keep up to date on rockstargames.com and according to their “Spring Updates” article from about 2 months ago heists would be coming in spring. Spring ends this month. June.
So they’ve kept quiet about it since (prob getting out of e3s way, just my guess). But I’m inclined to believe that heists wont be more than a big “contact mission”. So a lot of people are going to be disappointed I think. What I’m basically saying is: If you can’t find enough fun things to do in GTA Online without heists, the heists wont tip you over that point.
I stopped playing it due to everyone being a booster, followed by everyone being more interested in glitching to make millions than playing.
Depends on where/when you’re playing I guess. I don’t really see anyone above the lvl 150 mark now, above me is super rare (I’m 230ish). Fair enough though.
I just haven’t seen any of that in about the 2 month mark. Of course though, to each their own.
Multi-player Heists were never advertised on the box.. All it says is the singleplayer info and a “Featuring GTA Online” addition.
Consoles: the inferior race strikes again!
I haven’t really been a PC gamer for a long time, but “GTA is a PlayStation franchise. It started with us” is a pretty annoying statement.
The first GTA was a PC game and Sony shared GTA games with the PC, Dreamcast and Gameboy before they got GTA III as a timed exclusive.
The expansion packs for GTA IV launched on the 360 first and even the DS has had a GTA game designed for it (later ported to PSP).
There’s no doubt GTA games shipped a lot of Playstation’s over the years, but Sony claiming any kind of ownership of the franchise is a bit rich.
I think you should write a letter. 😉
Might be annoying but taken with the context of his entire quote I don’t see the problem.
Like GTAV the older games sold insanely well on PS and I don’t see why Sony shouldn’t be proud of that. They aren’t claiming owenership of the game so much as claiming ownership of the considerable contribution to the history of the game.
That and who the hell cares, it’s marketing after all.
Oh I agree it could be ignored, but where would be the fun in that!
“GTA is a Playstation franchise. It started with us.” isn’t really open for much interpretation, it’s a pretty clear statement and it’s just wrong.
Morrowind got released on PC and Xbox, Oblivion was a 360 timed exclusive and Skyrim sucked on PS3…. I wouldn’t say “Elder Scrolls is a Xbox franchise”, because it’s not.
Of course it can’t be left to interpretation, you only quoted one line of the whole quote.
That looks like a pretty absolute statement to me.
I can quote the whole thing if you want but I don’t see how it changes the context of those couple of lines.
There’s no “if”s or “almost”s or “kinda”s in what he said there, he made an absolute statement and it was (IMO) ridiculous.
If he’d said “I feel like GTA is really a Playstation thing. We’re the only brand that’s been there since the beginning” then I wouldn’t have a problem with that.
Agreed, it’s a dumb statement.
Short of new characters and extra missions I wouldn’t care. Most likely going to be a few guns and some different skins. Kind of like their gear for Destiny. Anything you get at the start of that game(Destiny) will not be with you end game so I don’t see the point. If they had some exclusive missions and a fourth playable character then maybe I’d get GTA:V for the PS4 but I’ll get on my XBone.
Don’t worry Xbox/PC guys, it’s probably just some pieces of clothing or something.
God damn, I hate platform specific content. Pisses me off. If I buy it on my platform of choice, I should be able to experience everything the game has to offer.
I don’t care if it’s some outfit or something, it’s still annoying.
Why even buy it again just for a graphics upgrade?
It isn’t the fact that PS4 owners can bring their 360 save game across is it?
GTA III vas the first game in the GTA franchise to be released first to Playstation rather than PC. All prevois games before GTA III was releases mainly to PC and then to Playstation.
