The World's Largest Video Game Collection Just Sold For $750,000

Towards the end of 2013, the Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that Michael Thomasson was in possession of the world's largest and greatest video game collection. Now he has sold all 11,000+ video games for a mind boggling $750,250.

I can't decide which who got the better of the deal here. The buyer, who picked up an insane collection, which will probably continue to grow in value, or the seller who just landed a huge chunk of cash.

The winning bidder was 'peeps_10091970', who pipped rival bidder 'catch123' to the post on GameGavel, where the auction was being held. Michael sold his collection to "address the needs" of his family. Hopefully this huge amount of cash will cover the costs!

The collection is truly spectacular. You can check out more pics of Michael's games here.

Personally I would have sold my family.

I genuinely hope he needed the cash for family reasons. a collection of this magnitude is a labour of love and something that he clearly personally holds dear. Best of luck Mr. Thomasson, and thankyou for sharing the pictures.

Wasn't he selling them because his wife demanded him to?

Should've got rid of the wife, he'd only have to give up half of them then.

if that's true, then that is a shame. Compromise is part and parcel of marriage, even my wife is disgusted by this - if true.
Sure, she sympathises with Mrs. Thomasson, but "get over it".
...That sounds like a green light to start my own collection to me...

My wife would say "good on her", she hates my games.

Is this just speculation? Maybe it was a medical emergency

I thought I remember reading an article about a guy having to sell all his games because his wife demanded it. Can't exactly remember if it was this story.

"I simply have an immediate family and extended family that have needs that need to be addressed. While I do not wish to part with these games, I have responsibilities that I have made to others and this action is how I will help meet them," Thomasson said. "No worries, I've sold my collection many times in the past and still managed to capture Guinness' attention, and it is entirely possible that I may again."

I can't find any evidence that it's specifically his wife that's made him do this. Seems like a personal decision to me.

Put this together with other related news of the day, and PewDiePie could have bought this on 2 months work. Hmmmm. HMMMM.

I am jealous of PewDiePie's earnings.

I do not approve of this collection.

It is missing many classic RPGs like Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Terranigma, Illusion of Time, Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, etc. =/

Maybe he just doesn't like RPGs.

That's why I don't have any of those titles in mine :P
