Isn’t it great there’ll be a way to play Alien Isolation using the film’s original cast? Wasn’t it stupid that this mode was announced as a preorder bonus? Well, “good” news: the content is going to be available to everyone, not just those preordering the game.
Sega has released a short statement today that reads:
It’s genuinely been great to see the reaction to The Crew Expendable and Last Survivor pre-order bonus content we announced yesterday and how excited you all are to re-experience those classic scenes from the original movie with our Alien. It’s been absolutely amazing for us at the Studio.
However, some of you have been asking if the two pieces of content are only available through pre-order or if we’ll be releasing them at a later date as well.
So, I can confirm today that we do plan to release both Crew Expendable and Last Survivor at a later date and we’ll have more details for you guys on that shortly.
Before you get too excited, remember: those “more details” may well include how much you’re going to have to pay.

I’ll show my displeasure with day 0 retailer-exlcusive story DLC by simply not buying it. You know, stick it to the man & all that.
That’ll teach ’em!
Good, I was so tempted to pre-order straight but good thing I didn’t.
Im genuinely excited about this game
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the previous game, but from what i’ve heard and read sega looks like they are picking up their game a bit for this one
I have seen a few worrying signs pop up recently that have made me a little sceptical.
Remember that Colonial Marines was getting a lot of good hype too and the company paid reviewers to give shining feedback. It wasn’t until the game was released that we saw what a steaming pile of crap it was.
So I remain hopeful, but the burden of proof is on the company to deliver here and I will hold off to see if it lives up to the expectations and claims.
But remember that these games are different. CM was a FPS, but this is an Amnesia like survival horror game with a scarce amount of guns. Also, both have different devs and Colonial Marines was stuck in development hell for a good length of time.
I’m hoping it turns out good considering all that, even if it ends up being for certain tastes.
Good to know, but I would have been happier to hear “Oh, and y’know that Oculus Rift support we showed you in the demo and then said there’s no full version of the game with it? We changed our minds.”
I want it, so I’ll pre-order it, it’s just good business on their end and you/I would have done the same thing being in their marketing manager’s position. We are just consumers after all, the publisher does not owe us anything.
I do agree that exclusive story content borders on the un-ethical, but as with everything on the internet in a few days time everyone will have forgotten that this was a thing as they find something else to get angry over through a false-guise of entitlement.
Nope, constant phrasing of entitlement makes for a poor argument.
As consumers we have choice, choice based on our perceptions of qualities like equity. The actions of the publisher hold great sway over consumer choice, if the consumer sees activity they hold to be inequitable or unethical, then their choice to avoid the product should not be misconstrued as entitlement.
The publisher owes the consumer nothing, yes, as the consumer owes nothing to the publisher. However, the onus does not lie with the consumer to make the terms of an appealing transaction. Without such, what motivation would there be for any consumer?
People need to remember that being a consumer is to be more than walking wallet with buttons of interest to push.
TL;DR: They realised that modders would unlock it anyway and decided that they would release it to all as DLC so they could make more money from what would normally be free
I for one am keenly interested in seeing what it will like to be terrified by a Sigourney Weaver skinned alien (wait what??)
I don’t know why people were getting bent out of shape over this. Yes, it’s Day 1 DLC, but it’s not part of the main game. It’s not content that’s been removed to drive up preorders. It’s a extra level or two, a nice little bonus for fans of the film, completely separate from the main game.
If you were interested in the game wouldn’t you just Preorder the darn thing otherwise you’ll have to pay for it later, or you can totally be stoic and stick it to the man bahaha
The way I see it, if you pre-order every game that you think looks interesting prior to release you’ll end up spending far more money on rubbish than if you wait for reviews and spend the extra $10 on pre-order bonuses once you know it’s a sound investment.
Don’t get me wrong, I think this game looks really promising. But so have many others that turned out to be complete rubbish.
