Borderlands Rap Album Is… Not Half-Bad, Actually

Borderlands Rap Album Is… Not Half-Bad, Actually

Yes, somebody made a rap album entirely about loot-tacular shooter Borderlands. Surprisingly, it’s not the worst thing ever. It’s kinda good, actually. I know, right?

The group’s name is RPG-Unit (hah), and they have put together a six-song Borderlands-themed EP called Rock, Paper, Genocide. You can listen to it for free on Soundcloud.

I think… I think I like it! There’s an impressive amount of musical diversity on display, from a really catchy Western-themed opening track to “Claptrap’s Dubstep Song He Wrote” to a show-tunes-y breakdown in the otherwise heavy industrial stylings of “GUNS GUNS GUNS.” Sure, a couple songs go all-in on rap cliches, but I’m actually impressed by how creative a lot of this thing is.

There’s some fun character stuff in here, too. Claptrap’s whole song is pretty much what you’d expect, and Handsome Jack’s closing track is chock full of the arsehole antics fans love to lovehate. Best line? “Hey Salvador, why don’t you dual wield my dick?” That one actually made me laugh out loud. So dumb, so right.

The lyrics are extremely goofy (and yet, they somehow find a way to take themselves a little too seriously), but man, I’m surprised by how much I’m digging this on the whole — and I’m not even that huge of a Borderlands fan.

Enough from me, though. Go give it a listen and see what you think.
