And you thought it was neat that there’d been a long-hidden Easter Egg in Halo: Reach. Whatever. One that’s been hiding inside Halo 3 — for seven long years — has finally been found. And it’s pretty sweet.
Not sweet in a “whoa, that’s sweet!” kind of way. In a “awww, that’s sweet” kind of way.
As Team Beyond report, developers Bungie have actually been teasing this for a while; former Bungie developer Adrian Perez, now at Sucker Punch, once said in a community Q&A:
Q: What is your proudest moment in your time at Bungie?
A: Showing my wife the Easter egg I put in the halo 3 loading screen for her — the one that nobody has found yet.
Well, it’s been found now (by Lord Zedd). Seems if you click both thumbsticks while on the loading screen on December 25, the view pans out. And if you slow it down, you can clearly see a birthday message for Perez’s wife Lauren.
Happy birthday for December, Lauren!
UPDATE: Aha! As some have been quick to point out, Bungie sure loves the number 7. Interesting…

I couldn’t see it in that video
I couldn’t either, initially. Try 720p/full screen.
The message appears in dark letters on the halo hologram itself, it reads “happy birthday lauren” I think
Yeah, watching it on my iphone …
Yeah, I had to watch it a few times before I got that, but it’s what I saw as well.
Wasn’t this one of the Armageddon signs heralding the end of the earth? I’m sure I read something about a halo and Easter eggs in the last testament.
