Michael Fassbender Still Attached To Assassin's Creed Movie (Phew!)

After sorting out a director earlier this year and with Michael Fassbender lined up for the role of series' protagonist Desmond Miles, the in-production Assassin's Creed movie looks like it'll happen... eventually. Apparently there were rumours Fassbender had departed the project, but it turns out that's not the case, according to the man himself.

Speaking with IGN's Roth Cornet, Fassbender enthusiastically reaffirmed his commitment to the film, stating that "nothing has changed":

"It's fantastic. People talk about it, and they're hopefully interested. Nothing has changed, yeah. I'm still a part of Assassin's Creed, and we're working on the script as we speak. Actually, I'm going to go back and see the writers when I get back to Europe."

Fassbender goes on to say that while the film will "respect the game", the writers are keen to inject "new elements" and their own "version of things". That said, they don't have any problems with the source material itself — in fact, they "love" it:

I don't really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory ... I just thought, "This is so rich," and about the possibility of it being this cinematic experience. So I'm really excited about it, and we're working very hard to make sure that we've got the best and most exciting, original package."

Is it worth getting excited about? Not yet. Best to save your "losing my mind" face for when shots of an in-costume Fassbender start hitting the internet.

Heck, why not make a folder on your desktop for them now? Can't hurt.

Michael Fassbender Wants to Honor the Game & Bring in Original Elements on the Assassin's Creed Movie [IGN]

I would rather see him play Ezio than Desmond.

Nah I think I'd rather see someone who looks the part play Ezio, rather than a pasty ranga Irishman :P

As much as I want this movie to be good, I am worried that it's going to be more like Sucker Punch than the Matrix in terms of movies that had parallel stories and worlds within worlds.

Oh, so we need an Ezio do we?

    Allow me.

Oh God I hope they don’t focus much on the sci-fi aspects of AC. But they will. We all know they will.
