No Man’s Sky Will Hit PC, But Only After PS4

It’s been a tough few months for some members of the #PCMasterRace what with the hotly anticipated universe exploration simulator No Man’s Sky being treated as a PS4 exclusive. But it turns out Hello Games’ little project will also get a PC release. Eventually.

In the newest issue of Edge — via Gamespot — the team confirmed that No Man’s Sky is indeed a PS4 exclusive, but only for a while. Hello Games will put the colourful game on PC some time after it launches on PS4. So PC gamer nerds will get to experience it, but only after the console casuals* get a shot at it.

Hello’s Sean Murray explained to Edge that there is a practical purpose to the timed exclusivity: establishing a technological standard for the procedurally generated game by leading with a console with set specs.

“Unlike most games, the actual hardware really affects what we can do in terms of the richness of the worlds and things like that,” Murray said. “It isn’t just adding a veneer of resolution, or extra antialiasing options. It has a real effect on what we can actually do in the universe.”

But I guess us PC gamers can take solace in assuming that our venerable hardware probably will support better antialiasing options than the PS4 does.

Now, if you wanna know more about No Man’s Sky, Tina did some cool writeups out of E3 on it. Start with this one.

*for the record, my PS4 rests on top of my tower PC.
