This Week In Games: Oh Hohokum!

The drought is real people. It’s real. Literally the only retail release this week is a game that was supposed to come out last week. Even the usual pile of gumph from Steam is a little smaller than usual. There are only two retro-styled 2D platformers coming out this week for God’s sake! Step your game up Steam!

Advanced Tactics Gold (PC)

What is it? A traditional 2D strategy wargame. Looks intense. And advanced.
Should you care? This one is for full-on core fans of the strategy genre. It looks complicated.

Amazing Princess Sarah (PC)

What is it? A 2D castlevania-inspired platformer featuring retro-styled visuals.
Should you care? I was ready to blitz this as yet another dull 2D retro-style piece of nonsense, but apparently this has reviewed pretty well, so maybe I should take it easy. Still, this visual style is so played out it’s unbelievable.

Hangeki (PC)

What is it? Hangeki is a bombastic looking Arcade shooter. Like one of those scrolling things. Man I loved those games.
Should you care? Well, I love this genre, and I think this looks cool. Your mileage may vary.

Hohokum (PS4)

What is it? A game that is hard to describe but I really want to play. One of those zen indie games where you just explore.
Should you care? Absolutely — what else are you going to play this week?

Mega Coin Squad (PC)

What is it? This is a game from Adult Swim and Big Pixel Studios. It’s a four-player platform thing with competitive elements. Sort of like New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Should you care? It looks pretty cool I think. Hardly a must buy, but interesting enough.

Morphopolis (PC)

What is it? This is a game where you play as a grub and solve puzzles. At least it’s original…
Should you care? But it also looks absolutely gorgeous. Really gorgeous. Just click on this link and look at the screenshots…

Risen 3: Titan Lords (360/PS3/PC)

What is it? Hey, wait. Wasn’t this supposed to come out last week? Oh well, it’s coming out this week now. Must have been delayed.
Should you care? It’s an average Action RPG. If you’re desperate for something to play in that style, why not?
