Watch The Xbox One And PS4 Controller Form Like Voltron

Last generation it was all so simple. The Xbox 360 controller (in my opinion) was far superior to the DualShock 3, but this generation? It's a bit tougher to separate them. The DualShock 4 is such a massive, massive improvement, but the Xbox One controller — I think — still has superior analogue sticks. What if you could take the best parts of each one and make a goddamn super controller?

That's the dream and YouTuber Trials Of Ataraxia is living that dream and in the above video he shows you how.

Essentially he take the analogue sticks from the Xbox One, he then splits open the DualShock 4, takes the DS4's sticks out and replaces them with the Xbox One's (arguably) superior analogue sticks.

Sounds simple enough, right?

Well, yes and no. I sure as hell won't be trying this any time soon, but I am not tech savvy to the level where I could confidently mess around with $90 controllers like that. As the video progresses it seems to get exponentially more complicated as time goes on. I love the Xbox One's analogue sticks, but I'm not sure I love them that much.

But if you're feeling brave, go for it! I'd love to hear about the results.

Note: the bloopers at the end are well worth watching. Particularly if you've ever tried to mod something, or even build your own PC. That fear, the reaction when you drop something... it's visceral! There are a lot of swears. Good swears. Funny swears.

I would be interested to know if the Dual Shock 3 thumb sticks would work.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they are too big and won't give you the full range of movement.

What I actually want to know is how good the 'hardened' DS4 analogs are that you can get on eBay. When mine go, I'll either grab me some metal X1 analogs, or the hardened PS4 ones.

It's just that I don't mind the shape of the DS4 sticks, I like that they are both concave AND convex, they just rip too easily, but no one I know has tried the 'harder' sticks.

Yeah that's basically my problem, I don't want the X1 sticks and only dislike the DS4 ones because of the rubber sheath around the plastic which has already started to rip and wear on both controllers. Otherwise they are great.

Actually quite annoyed since Sony knows about the the problems with non solid sticks as far back as the DS1.

I've never been a big fan of Xbox controllers. People say they're great for people with big hands... I have huge hands and still prefer the Sony controllers. I was happy with DS3, but DS4 is a goddam godsend for sure.

Its the same with me. I prefer playstation controls. It is all a matter of grip, Xbox users will hold a Playstation control in a different way to a PS user and vise versa. Its the same as people using a mouse with a claw grip or a palm grip.

Do you want the authentic feel of slipping off the thumbstick that only the DS3 offers?

The DS3 sticks have some good uses. Some of the 3rd party 'pro-sumer' controllers use an Xbox stick on the left and a DS3 stick on the right (Edit), just saying. Sticks aren't the end of the world.

I get your point though. Each to their own.

Sorry, DS3 on the right I mean, similar to how the original Xbox pad looked I guess?
