Years of Work in Minecraft, As Told in GIFs

Yes, we've seen before what Minecraft players are capable of building over long periods of time. But that's no excuse to skip Broville.

Broville has been around for quite a while, and these animations show what its team of builders has been up to over the years. Quite a lot, it looks like.

Not that Broville is ugly up close, mind you. Far from it. These shots show how much progress was made in two years' time:

The city has been around since Beta times, getting started in 2010. Since then, the building team has grown in size from three to ten, with individual contributions from more than thirty people.

Broville is still under construction, so it's unavailable for download, but there's a demo map to look at if you really want an up-close experience. The project also has its own subreddit which you can watch for updates.

I'm more impressed that over years they didn't end up with 20 giant penis monuments. Especially being called Broville.

    why do it

Why should I work on my cars/motorbikes for years? Computers? Why have any hobby?

Because they get enjoyment and satsifaction out of it. Sure it seems a waste of time to you, but anything you enjoy doing and are in a position to do so is an investment in yourself, one that continues to pay dividends for as long as you want.

I actually envy people that manage this kind of stuff. Makes me wish I was a little more creative and dedicated enough to undertake such a huge project. Genuinely impressive to me.

this is cool. anyone else get a SimCity vibe from those overhead shots. looks just like 2000.

Agreed, my first thought on seeing the initial GIF was "why do they have a SC2000 screenshot in a Minecraft article?"

Impressive work. I'm assuming that it was done in Creative mode though - are there any such projects that were done in Survival mode?

i have minecraft but i have hokey pokey java that likes to kill my minecraft session......id like to try something like this...

    LEGO!

The creative mode alone takes a crapload of time to do this sort of thing, let alone doing 100% survival. There simply isn't any incentive beyond street cred for doing it in survival, and that alone isn't worth the 500% increase of build time.

    Looks like openTTD xD
