Even when they're being protected by bigger, stronger adults, the children who have survived in The Last of Us' fiction are seeing horrible things. Just like in this fan film.
If nothing else, Alone — a TLOU fan film made by Australian film-making collective Pocketsquare — nails the moody nihilism of Naughty Dog's hit game. Sure, the nameless dude and kid are surviving their encounters with terrible humans and creepy Clickers. But, it doesn't seem like things are going to get better.
Alone also manages to translate the feeling of playing The Last of Us, too, where you're moving through incredibly lovely environments that get interrupted with spastic life-or-death struggles. That kid may live to get to Boston, but what kind of life is he going to have?
