Sad, Beautiful Photos Of Video Games

Photographer Pavel Vesnakov is trying something cool: a blending of screenshots and real-world photography techniques to create images that are very different to what you’d normally see coming out of a game.

“First I am taking normal screenshots, which I post-produce with a template that I’ve developed”, Pavel tells me. He then takes out his camera and takes a photo of the screen. Sounds cumbersome, and not exactly ideal for capturing the fidelity of a video game, but that’s precisely the point.

“I am focused on exploring the extreme violence and loneliness that flourishes from video games nowadays”, he says, having captured images from games like Dear Esther and DayZ.

You can see more of Pavel’s work at his Tumblr and Flickr page.
