When I first listened to Mission Statement by Weird Al, my first thought was that it summed up my business analysis class to a tee. I'm pretty sure I've encountered every buzzword in that song at least once this semester. God knows how many times I've heard the word synergy.

Anyways, I was looking through the last few weeks of content, and in the last week (summary and exam prep) there's nothing in there, except for the video for Mission Statement :P The unit coordinator for that class is pretty great

The buzzword du jour for where I work is "holistic". It sounds so bad because it makes us sound like some sort of religious group due to not many people actually understanding what the word means.

Do you work at a detective agency?

Isn't that what the nuns used to beat you with?

It took me a while to understand why that word is used as a business term

Infamous Second Son on PS4, $27, JB Hi-Fi. BUY NOW BUY NOW! :D

      I hear it's good!

No thanks, I already have a son. I don't need an infamous second one.

      That's cheap. I don't even have a PS4 (yet) and I'm tempted!

JB has an alright deal for a PS4 bundle atm; Console + Destiny, Knack, Infamous Second Son & Assassin's Creed IV for $599

There's a sorta similar one for Xbone priced at $498, but not as good value imo. KInectless Xbox One + Destiny & Assassin's Creed IV. Throw in 2 platform exclusives and make it the same price or a little cheaper than the PS4 bundle and i'd actually consider it.

Edit: there is! You get Forza 5 & some other Forza game with Destiny & Assassin's Creed IV for $548 & there's also a PS4 bundle with just Assassin's Creed IV & The Last of Us Remastered for $499 not bad.

It's nice to see there's some good deals popping up.

    Last edited 17/09/14 5:40 pm

Or just wait and get the white Xbone bundle with Sunset Overdive for $500.

I've been coming close to getting an Xbone for a while now, but there's nothing that's really pulled me over the edge. Not sure what will.

I was more tempted by he CoD one cause of the larger HDD, but the deal with 4 games for $550 seems good, be better if it came with a year worth of XBL though lol.

IIRC you can replace the hard drive in the Xbone yourself, same as with the PS4.

Oh wow that's a step forward if it's ANY suitable size hdd!

              Turns out you can't. :(

But it supports plugging in an external HDD now so you could just chuck a 1tb external at it if you actually run out of space.

Cool, any Soundwave fan can apparently pick up Slash's new CD for 10 bucks at JB for only 10 bucks tomorrow or Friday.. Wish I had known that before I bought it online for almost 2x as much heh.

If I hadn't bought it on iTunes, and had a JB Hi-Fi near me, I would definitely buy it for that price. Great album though.

    Okay everyone.
Kingpin, the venue for the karaoke, contacted me today.
A company has decided to book out the entire venue for a private function. However, because we booked earlier then them, we are now getting an upgrade to a private room with it's own bar upstairs at no extra charge!
So we won't have to see the public, let alone interact with them =D
Also, bowling finishes at 8pm, which is when we have to move upstairs

That sounds radder than it was previously going to be \o/

How long have they given the room for?

No idea? We have ours until 10pm

We've arranged to check it out not this weekend but the next just to ensure it'll be able to accomodate everyone comfortably.

Are people still able to join into this thing? It continues to slip my mind...

Yes, you have until October 31st

What are the details? Day, cost etc?

Saturday from 7pm to 10pm. Food is included and 1 free drink. Also a game of bowling. It's $48 pp.

Would we have to pay beforehand or can we rock up and pay on the night?

Beforehand would be preferable, but if you can only pay on the night, I'm sure we can work it out.

Cool beans. Will get back to you in the next week or so. Thank you!

Let others who may not have heard know too please

Wow my Facebook feed atm.. All the racist, hatred & bigoted opinions involving a non-western religion on one particular status posted by someone I know, then all the people I know from school posting very similar "opinions" oh boy.. I thought these people I know were better than this.

Banhammer time. Once I purged the racist from my feed it improved considerably.

Agreed. I'm honestly quite appalled at the stuff some of them have said. Thankfully I don't have any of them added, just the person who made the status. But he seemed to side with both sides for some weird reason.

I have (it would seem) an awful amount of awful people on my Facebook; bigoted, racist, homophobic, etc.

There are plenty of times that I bring out the Banhammer to exact swift justice, however I find that what stops me is that I need reminders that there are some truly despicable people on this earth and I need to stop myself from becoming one of them. They are a constant reminder of why I shouldn't watch Big Brother, read the news or The Kardashians.

My rule is: "If you're being an ignorant idiot, you're no friend of mine, unfriended!"

    @freezespreston @coldcamv @beeawwb or @jocon or @anyone

    Fiasco tomorrow night?

I should be able to do after 8 if thats well and dandy with everyone else

@freezespreston @coldcamv 8 eastern? Sure. @beeawwb are you able to join us?

In the meantime, have a look at this list and see which of these settings jumps out at you (I'll veto action news six as we just did it). This will be the genre of Fiasco we create and will define our relationships, needs, locations etc.

I'm a bit sick right now but should be ok by tomorrow evening.

          Sorry, didn't link right:

Im either leaning towards the flight 1180 since just rewatching non-stop and snakes on a plane or Home Invasion simply because of Payday..oh god i love me some Payday

              Let's do 1180, reckon it's a winner.

Will be very surprised if it doesn't end with the plane crashing!

I've decided to format my computer.
    Y'know, for kicks.
Already backing up everything I require.

    Last edited 17/09/14 7:09 pm

Nothing quite as refreshing as a blank slate!

haha well nothing intimidating about it to me! I do work with computers a lot though!

It's about a bi-yearly occurrence at the moment.
Hoping to make it less frequent. :)

i've done it far less frequently with windows 7 than I have xp which is a blessing

Eldest brings home a writing task about what she wants to be when she grows up.

Apparently she wants to work at McDonald's.

On the plus side, at least her life dream is attainable!

Apparently I used to tell my parents that when I grew up, I wanted to be a uni student.
...This says a lot more about me than I expected it to.

@pixel_the_ferret_viking and any other Disney Infinity peeps. Just got the Target catalogue, and it seems like they've got the best deals

    $68 for the starter pack
    $32 for playsets and
    $15 for individual figures.

Considering cancelling my collector's edition, only get 6 figures in it, but if I buy it all indiviually I'll be able to get the starter pack and all the first wave of figures and playsets for the same price. Will just mean I won't get that cool stand and I'll have to wait a month for Hulk (that make Hulk sad).

I got the standard edition pre-ordered from target \o/
will probably pick up a few of the Guardians as well if funds allow for it

Ah, didn't realize you'd ordered from Target. If you can get a few extra figures I'd spend the extra 2 bucks and get the Guardians playset, it'll give you a whole bunch extra playtime and you can always pick up the other Guardians down the track. Got mine almost paid off, gonna have to overdraw my account a tad tomorrow to pay the rest off.

        Can't wait for tomorrow.

I am picking up the CE from EB tomorrow with the free one from the pre order and the 3 from the CE can't wait.

    @fled @grandmasterb-funk @greenius @hindenlagen @phlanispo @phoenix @platinum-urchin @thecracks

There's a chance that Greenius will stay over the 27th/28th weekend, if he has company.
There's a bunch of things he wants to do (probably too much for two days), so if anyone is up for hanging out, just let us know.
    Things include:
    - Perth Royal Show
    - AQWA
    - Zoo
    - Casino (sorry little Phlanispo)
    - Seeing Boyhood
    - Buying clothes (legit, like, I didn't make this up)
    - King's Park, and
    - Museum

I'll be honest, I'd probably skip AQWA and the Museum. They're not that great.
And Kings Park. You guys can do that without me, cause I am not getting stabbed / mugged / raped / all of the above.

This is too much for me to try and organise single handedly though.

I needs me some business shirts!

Stewie has the best shopping montages! :D

But does he carry a boom box playing nothing but hits from the 80s?

Isn't that any shirt with a collar?

Nope. Accessories like a pocket and sleeve bracers immediately put it into another category. Then you move onto things like cut type, pattern, collar design - all of which make a very minor difference.

Depending on your build, if you're slim like me then yd/tarocash stock good stuff. Occasional massive discounts at Myer. Need dat slim fit tho, if slim build.

Ooooh, Boyhood looks incredible! Still haven't seen it though! *shakes fist*

      Also, hey buddy!

I didn't mean to give you the cold shoulder, I just don't want to post on TAY this week.
Just thought I came across as rude was all.

Nah, not at all, man. Was going to send you a message but figured you needed some space. I'm sorry if you thought I was mocking you, though. My default state is to make jokes about stuff. Was a pretty serious thread and it was my attempt to lighten the mood but I don't think I was articulate or did a very good job at it.

          Last edited 18/09/14 6:35 pm

Aqwa is only fun when you are 5. 7-year old Phlanispo can attest to this, and so can 16-year old Phlanispo. I only just realised that its been 7 years since I've been in a museum. I should remedy that at some point. Seems like a museum meat would be terrible, regardless of how good the museum is. Kings Park has nothing to really see if you don't like spying on other people's weddings or grieving the loss of the awesome metal slide they used to have.
I went to the Royal Show back in the mid 2000's and I thought it was a waste of time. Then again, my parents refused to spend money on anything outside of the bus fares.
The Zoo is a surprisingly good time, but it's very quite expensive. It's like double the cost of an Adventure World ticket, and those poor little poteroos can't compete with the Bounty's Revenge.
Boyhood sounds like it will be a really awesome movie.

Regardless of how awesome the plans are, I dunno if I'll be able to come. Transport is hard for me, and the idea of socialising is terrifying. However, school will have pretty much finished by then, and the extensive time for planning will make it easier for me to come, so who knows.

Aww man I would but on the 27th me and the partner are having our engagement party.

Wait, the 27/28th weekend? Definitely can't come. My mum will kill me if I say why, but I'll just say that transportation will be very, very difficult.

    Can't. Keep. Up. With. TAY.

    Too much work and study.

I've been trying to read from page 5 this morning, too much work....

      *Head desk*

I give up and skip to the end... but then feel like I've missed something...

Also catch myself writing lengthy replies that in all likelihood won't get any discussion.

You miss some of the banter, I remember skipping the Zoe Quinn stuff and I haven't quite got back in front with that one lol.

I just read it all though, you can make it!

I'm going through and reading all the awesome quotes from Skulduggery Pleasant. Here are a few, presented without context.

“I had an uneventful few days," it told her. "The most exciting thing was an hour-long lecture from the headmaster on taking our studies seriously. He said next year's exam will arrive sooner than we think."
"No, they won't," Valkyrie said, frowning. "They'll arrive next year, exactly when we expect them."
"That's what I told him," the reflection nodded. "I don't think he's comfortable with logic, because he didn't look happy. He sent me to the Career Guidance counsellor, who asked me what I wanted to do after college."
Valkyrie stowed her black clothes. "What did you say?"
"I told her I wanted to be a Career Guidance counsellor. She started crying, then accused me of mocking her. I told her if she wasn't happy in her job then she should look at other options, then pointed out that I was already doing her job better than she was. She gave me detention.”

“Can I ask you a question? You know with vampires and werewolves and goblins and things, is there any mythological creature that doesn't actually exist?"
"Of course," he replied. "The unicorn and the leprechaun would be would be the two main ones. The Loch Ness Monster isn't real, either, that's just someone called Bert.”

    “Is that it?”
    “No. That’s a wall.”
    “It could be disguised.”
“You’re not very good at looking for things, are you?”
“I’m good at looking for walls. Look, I found another one.”

“And I order people around really well. This morning, Tipstaff came over with a cup of tea and I told him no, I don’t want tea I want coffee. That was great. I really asserted my authority.”
“Did he go and get you a coffee?”
“No, he said he’d already made a pot of tea so I took the tea because, you know he’d already made it, but my authority was still firmly asserted.”
He nodded. “He’ll think twice about making tea again.”

Here's some more, even though no-one asked.

“We're not retreating, we're advancing in reverse."

“So that plan worked out well.'
"Skulduggery, your entire plan consisted of, and I quote, 'Let's get up close and then see what happens.'"
"All the same," he said, 'I think the whole thing worked out rather beautifully."

“That's beautiful," Valkyrie said, looking at it.
"Isn't it? This necklace has cost two very fine men their lives. At times, I wear it in tribute to their sacrifice. Other times, I wear it because it goes with this skirt.”

“Have you killed anyone?” she asked quickly.
“What? Did you miss what I said, about turning murder into
      an art form?”
“But you haven’t actually killed anyone yet, have you? I read
      your file.”
He glowered. “Technically, yeah, all right, maybe I haven’t”

“Then I reckon we got ourselves a good old-fashioned standoff."
Nobody moved, or said anything, for the next few moments.
      "Old-fashioned standoffs are mighty borin”

“That's a shame. I'm sure somebody, somewhere, cares.”

"Do you have a better plan?" Valkyrie asked.
"Of course not. I'm a man of action, not thought."
Valkyrie nodded. "You're defintely not a man of thought."
"Why are you in charge anyway? What do you know about organising something like this?"
      "I have faith," Tanith said.
      "As do I," said Ghastly.
Valkyrie smiled at them gratefully. "So you think the plan will work?"
      "God, no," said Ghastly.
      "Sorry, Val," said Tanith”

Question for you teamspeaky folks, can you assign conversation participants to specific channels? Say if I had a conversation going with 2 other people, could I set it so one person is coming out of the left speaker and the other out of the right?

I'm pretty sure it does have options for that, but I've never bothered fiddling with them, so I'm afraid I can't comment on how well they work.

I wouldn't know man, I can only hear from my right ear (100% deaf in the left ear since birth...)

      Last edited 18/09/14 3:35 pm

This does make it ever so slightly less likely that you'd use that feature if it does indeed exist, I have to agree...

Don't ask me why or how, but this song is stuck in my head:

The party has decided to seek the impossible blade, one of the two items needed to free @mythamphetamine from his parasitic infection. Their journey has lead them to barrowtown, where they have been given conflicting accounts on exactly where it is - and @blaghman, thinking with his muscles and fuelled by sludge beer, has taken a "millwife"

Will Burris Han lead them to the blade? What's up with Eenosh and Seniya and what can they tell us? Are the rumours about giant insects and the afterlife true? And what exactly is a millwife and why are the town elders telling him he now has one? Tune in next time for more TALES OF THE NINTH WORLD

    THanks for playing!

Have no idea why, but I'm great at saving my glimmer in Destiny (barely spent any of it), but in real life I just can't save money. I have before, but it usually only lasts for a few weeks, and then I just have to go on a spending spree, I just can't help myself.

Solution: Bungie, please make my life one giant game of Destiny. Sorted.

So can someone help me out and tell me if I'm crazy (for reasons other than replying)?

Not looking for any kind of back-up, just confirmation of my insanity here in TAY would be fine.

The only people worse at maths than writers are artists.

I... have no idea where that leaves me :P

@dkzeitgeist, sorry I could only swing $5, man. Money's tight, but I wanted to support the cause (and reward that pitch).

Everyone else, dig deeper than me.

Sif that even warrants an apology ya dhingus!

      Classic Shane, always a gent.

Your description is pretty great. We need more Dans in this world.

In a level 17 story mission on Mars. Could probably do with some help if anyone wants to join in (I'm only level 16).

    Last edited 17/09/14 10:43 pm

Sorry I didn't join after you invited me last night, bud, I was grinding Crucible marks so I can buy a new pair of gloves and neglecting my girlfriend.

I'll play tonight man. Not sure if we're pals on PSN? So hard to keep up! :P

Pretty sure we are, but now I'm gonna have to drag myself away from Disney Infinity.

I know I said this as a question at the start of the week, but I'm kinda tempted to create a Fiasco playset full of TAY in-jokes to play with some of you at PAX.

For this, I need Relationships, Objects, Needs and Locations related to TAY. Suggestions?

      Relationship: In each others pocket
      Object: Frozen Donut
      Needs: $10
      Location: Teamspeak

I don't really think it works.

Not sure I can get to a full playset's worth, but I'm eager to tinker with it.

        Just added: Location: Pax North

          It's a thing.

@redartifice, take note. DC has confirmed that Pax North is an object, not a location.

An object of my affection. Just like you, Shane!

              Things just got creepy!

-For Relationships, we have Gooky and everyone
-For objects, we have the Oar of Thorns
      - For needs, we have... something
-For locations, we have hermit caves

TAY, what are some good step towards not recklessly spending money?

      Do you need it?
If I come back in a week, will it still be there?
      Do I already have one?

Set yourself a "play" budget for the fortnight. Link it to a different card if you need to.

Work out how much money you need per pay cycle (rent, food, expected bills etc) then add a small buffer. When you get paid, transfer all of your money except that amount into a separate savings account that you can't immediately access. Don't touch the money in your savings unless you absolutely have to.

Stay home all day every day, internet blackout and no phone.

      Alternatively, just don't earn money.

      Last edited 18/09/14 12:18 am

Most people generally need a goal to save towards... Holiday, new car, house deposit.

Think about long term goals you want to achieve and start planning around them.

Another option, get married and have kids.

Look at your income. Then look at the cost of item. Realise that it'll take you x hours of mind-numbing work to obtain this item. Will you receive >2x hours entertainment from this? Will it save you hours?

Or will you purchase this item and spend your finite life-hours using it and paying it off for a measly 0.2% Fun Rating™ ... the choice is yours!

Set up a separate savings account and have it automatically deduct a small amount of your income into it, or get your company to put a certain percentage of your wages into it and the rest into your main account.

You'd be surprised what you can save when you never get a chance to see the money and it's immediately pushed away to savings.

The woods are a good start. However, I've heard from some people who swear by the Alps.

This one... isn't quite so shareable as the last one. Contains balls and arse :P I don't think he's quite as close a match either, a little more obscured and it's a black and white photo (arty!). But hey.
