Resident Evil: Revelations 2 was confirmed on September 1 at Sony's pre-TGS press conference. From what can be seen in the teaser, it's about a little girl running through a crowd of green wristband-wearing party-goers into a crowd of red wristband-wearing zombies. But there's a lot more hidden in plain view.
"That video was a 'concept teaser' and is a real-life video of the content of the game." RE: Revelations 2 producer Michiteru Okabe explained in an interview with Weekly Famitsu. According to the top devs of the new zombie game, the entire teaser is jam-packed full of in-game references — some bordering dangerously close to spoiler territory.
"From a development perspective, there's so much in the teaser that I thought, 'can we really show this much? Won't people figure this out?'" said series producer Masachika Kawata. "From each individual person to the background and props, there's hardly anything [in the teaser] that doesn't hold meaning." Added director Yasuhiro Anpo. "Normally when putting references in a video, I often say 'hey, this would be a spoiler!' and put a stop to it, but this time I decided to hold back and be generous."
Looking back over the teaser, a lot more can be noticed on a second or third viewing: the TerraSave logo, the 2 clocks in the background with different times, the slightly blurred object in a glass case in the foreground, the picture of the boat, the different styles of clothing people are wearing... And that's probably only scratching the surface. The teaser description on Youtube says, "Hidden secrets beckon to be discovered by anyone with eyes and wits sharp enough to find them."
On the game's homepage is the image of an island surrounded by rough seas. According to the men in charge, that island is going to be the stage of RE: Revelations 2. Another concept image released by Capcom shows a dank prison-like facility. While they would not elaborate as to what the facility is, the developers noted that it was only part of the island and that the island itself was the main stage of the game.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is scheduled for release early 2015 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
