These Limited Pokémon New 3DS Consoles Sure Look Luxurious

Probably because they're covered in suede! Available for pre-order through Japan's Pokémon Center stores starting September 20, these limited edition New 3DS consoles come with suede faceplates stamped with Pokémon — Groudon for the red Groudon Edition, and Kyogre for the blue Kyogre Edition.

As you can see on the top image, the handhelds' front features each Pokémon's primal versions, while the back shows the, well, non-primal versions:

The consoles are so far only confirmed for Japan, where they will cost ¥19,000 ($80) each. Furthermore, even though they release on the same day as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, November 21, they do not come bundled with copies of the games. They each include a custom home screen theme, however.

$80? That's awfully cheap lol. 19000 yen is like around $190 instead

You mean $180, not 80. That price is still actually pretty damned good! And ooooooh, suede!

I'm going to have a lot of fun making custom plates for these, and it's only a matter of time before we see things like Louis vuitton fabric.

I was reading through the article and I actually said "Holy shit, $80!".

Hmmm... If this is the 'New 3DS' (and not LL), then they're essentially selling an entire console just so you can get the interchangeable plates that go on any New 3DS?
Doesn't this sorta defy the point of the changeable faceplate design?

Limited edition faceplates are still limited edition. This way you canbbuy all of the LE devices, then sell off the consoles underneath. Have all of your games on one system, and switch out the rare covers at will!

Can I get one of these bad boys in Australia since the "new" 3ds is releasing here too?
