This week is Super Smash Bros. week. Time for me to do that thing where I spend two hours trying to find my 3DS charger.
Assassin’s Creed: Birth of a New World – The American Saga (360/PS3)
What is it? It’s that Assassin’s Creed multipack featuring Assassin’s Creed 3, Black Flag and Liberation.
Should you care? Great little package. Well worth getting.
Forza Horizon 2 (360/Xbox One)
What is it? Seriously, how do these guys get Forza games out so quick and maintain the quality?
Should you care? Apparently this is another top notch racer. What did you expect?
Khet 2.0 (PC)
What is it? A video game version of an award-winning board game that is super cerebral and tough.
Should you care? If you are super smart and like torturing/growing your grey matter, but all means look into this one.
METAL SLUG X (PC)
What is it? They still make these? That’s crazy.
Should you care? I’d play Broforce instead. That game is crazy good.
NAtURAL DOCtRINE (PS4/PS Vita)
What is it? A turn-based strategy game.
Should you care? Not bad. Not great. Not much else to say about this.
Pier Solar and the Great Architects (PC)
What is it? A turn-based RPG with top down Secret of Mana-esque visuals.
Should you care? It looks glorious actually, in the way it mixes old visual aesthetics with modern day lighting. I don’t know much about the game itself though…
Shadow Puppeteer (PC)
What is it? A co-op puzzler that plays on opposing forces of light and shadow.
Should you care? This is such a cool concept, and the execution looks gorgeous. It blows my mind how many cool games Steam has that I haven’t even heard of.
Silence of the Sleep (PC)
What is it? A horror puzzler with a gloriously grainy aesthetic.
Should you care? This looks intriguing. Love games that just plays ‘dartboard genre’ and combines random genres for the hell of it.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments (PC)
What is it? The latest in that Sherlock Holmes series.
Should you care? Apparently it might actually end up being pretty good. Folks clamouring after an adventure game with high production values should investigate.
Skylanders Trap Team (360/PS3/Wii/Xbox One/PS4/3DS)
What is it? It’s a new Skylanders game. Bye bye money.
Should you care? Skylanders is still the king of this, ‘make parents broke’ toy/video game phenomenon.
Super Smash Bros. (3DS)
What is it? IT’S HEEERRRRRRRREEEEEE!
Should you care? Come on man. It’s Smash Bros. You already know whether you care or not.
The Talos Principle (PC)
What is it? A first-person puzzle game with a dream team of indie developers behind it.
Should you care? Apparently this game is quite special. Fans of Portal or Antichamber will want to look into this.
TinyKeep (PC)
What is it? A gorgeous looking, top down, procedurally generated dungeon slasher.
Should you care? This is a bit of a surprise package for me, but it looks glorious. Looks like it could be a great little time waster.
Buying anything this week? Let us know in the comments below.

Yessssssssssssssssssssmash time!
Seems like a pretty good endorsement for Sherlock Holmes considering I didn’t really know they kept making these after the last one that generated all those creepy Watson videos.
Well it’s a port not a new game, but way to bury it in favour for a game that costs 3x more and is still early access.
yeah poor form on this one… for those as uninformed as Mark (:P) X is essentially the better version of Metal Slug 2… and this is a dotemu port/release of X… just like 3…
Yeh but it’s a port. Again.
Metal Slug is M.A.M.E.-ware.
Not really keen on anything this week, might EB rent forza and return it for shadow of mordor and smash gonna wait for the wii u version
Yeah, I can’t get any excitement for the 3DS version. Soo pumped for Wii U version though!
Natural Doctrine is out on PS3 too. Pier Solar is also supposed to be out on PS3, PS4, and of course, OUYA as well.
Nothing for me this week. More Destiny and Arkham Origins it is then.
Shadow of Mordor is out next week isn’t it? Looking forward to that.
Oooh and Annabelle is out this week! Not a game but I’m super excited for it!
I seem to be rambling…
Shadow is out in about 2 days.
As in Wednesday.
Not sure why it isn’t on this list.
Really??? I thought it was the 8th, but I’ll take this week for sure!
Whhooo, whoops, looks like I’ve been had/not had.
From the Wiki Page:
“The release date was moved from October 7, 2014 to September 30, 2014,[3] except in Australia where the release date has remained at October 8, 2014 for all platforms.[4]”
Except that Steam has it as 30th September for PC (digital). So…weird, they moved it for everybody, including PC, except that they haven’t moved it for PC.
*shrugs* I get to play it in two days, I am not complaining.
Didn’t read the second part of your comment. Just got worried i wasn’t going to get it in two days.
Yay for PC! Only wish i had a 6GB Video card. i want me those crazy textures.
Shadow of Mordor is out on PC this week (30/09) and Consoles next week.

This is what I’ll be playing!!
SMASH
Ughh, im so unsure about smash bros. On the one hand I love the series to death. On the other, I played the demo and really hated the controls…
Natural doctrine, im curious about. Has anyone played it?
Yeah. I wanted to get in early on the 3DS but something feels really off about the controls so I might wait until the Wii U version.
I’ve seen it said that the configurable controls helped to fix a lot of that – it was so stupid that the demo didn’t support control options or the CPP.
SMAAAAAAAAASH
NAtURAL DOCtRINE, Smash Bros, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax & Hori RAP4 for me this week.
I don’t have a 3DS so hopefully the WiiU version of smash gets a release date soon. It’s gonna be a long wait.
Honestly, I go about 6 months with basically no games of interest at all, and within the period of 2-3 weeks have to deal with four releases on top of each other.
Hyrule Warriors, FIFA 15, Forza Horizon 2 and Smash Bros.
I don’t know why developers choose to cram their games in the final months of each year, because in the end I am forced to make sacrifices and choose between one or the other due to time constraints.
I’ll do my best to play a fair share of all of these games, but honestly, each one individually would normally be a HUGE investment. This particular batch would have actually kept me going for the entire year had they not been released within the same weeks as each other!
Wait, The Talos Principal releases this week? The Steam page still says “fall 2014” and Croteam are saying that they are aiming for November.
My wallet is broken. I just got Theatrhythm, and am planning on Smash Bros, Forza Horizon 2, Fantasy Life and Hyrule Warriors. And they all had to come out around the time of the EB GAmes Expo, as well. Sigh.
@markserrels “Seriously, how do these guys get Forza games out so quick and maintain the quality?”
In case you were actually wondering:
There is two different game studios that make the Forza series. Turn 10 make the Forza Motorsport series. Playground Games make the Forza Horizon series. So they are each releasing a game every 2 years alternating. It helps that the car assets are often shared and reused between the two studios. 😉
Pretty pumped for Smash! My 3DS was in repairs at Nintendo for a week but been playing the demo as much as I can since I got it back!
Smash bros hell yea!!!!
Also looking forward to seeing Annabelle, but it’s not a game.
Seeing as we’re mentioning re-releases – BF BC2 is the GwG this week people! Arica Harbour here I come!!!!
Also Skylanders will be a Xmas present for one young member of my household
