This Week In Games: Soccerball

Soccerball! Who loves the soccerball? I love the soccerball, you love the soccerball. Let’s all play the video game version of the soccerball! It’s FIFA week and early reports say this might be one of the best versions of FIFA we’ve had in a while. Time for me to finally shell out on a second controller for the PS4/Xbox One.

Ancient Space (PC)

What is it? A single players RTS experience with pretty high production values.
Should you care? This looks fantastic and has a great high profile voice acting cast. I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about it up until this point.

Ar NoSurge: Ode to an Unborn Star (PS3)

What is it? A turn-based JRPG. Has been out in Japan for a while and is finally making it to the west.
Should you care? Apparently it’s not bad. But I think it’s definitely one for that niche, JRPG loving crowd.

Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies (PC)

What is it? A game based on the original Counter Strike with all new weapons and — of course — zombies.
Should you care? I think this might be worth looking at, particularly if you were a big fan of the original Counter Strike.

Defence Grid 2 (PC)

What is it? The sequel to one of the most popular tower defence games out there.
Should you care? Apparently this game is pretty special. Particularly if you’re into that genre.

Fantasy Life (3DS)

What is it? One of them there fantasy life sims ala Animal Crossing or Tomodatchi Life.
Should you care? It seems to have reviewed fairly well, but I can’t see it topping Animal Crossing.

FIFA 15 (360/PS3/Xbox One/PS4)

What is it? The soccerball giant is here. Just in time for (roughly) the start of European football.
Should you care? You know how every two or three years FIFA is really good? Apparently this is one of those years.

Gauntlet (PC)

What is it? Hey remember Gauntlet? Once upon a time Gauntlet was amazing. This is an attempt to go back to those days.
Should you care? Apparently it’s alright. Nothing too new. It’s an updated version of Gauntlet. That’s it.

Magicmaker (PC)

What is it? A craft focused platformer that looks kinda cool.
Should you care? I think this might hit young Minecraft target audience quite well. Might be worth keeping a eye on.

Moorhuhn: Tiger and Chicken (PC)

What is it? Apparently this is about some crazy chicken that’s featured in loads of games before, but I’ve never heard of it/him.
Should you care? Well, it’s a fairly gorgeous looking action RPG, so there’s that. Might be worth trying.

Neverending Nightmares (PC)

What is it? A horror game. ANOTHER ONE? Wait. There’s more.
Should you care? This game has a seriously unique hand-drawn art style. It looks pretty. Apparently the game is terrifying.

Schrödinger’s Cat And The Raiders Of The Lost Quark (PC)

What is it? Well this definitely takes the title for the best/weirdest video game name award I just made up this week. This is a puzzle platformer by Team 17.
Should you care? I need another puzzle platformer like I need a third nipple, but it’s Team 17, so it might be worth investigating.

Stronghold Crusader 2 (PC)

What is it? It’s a castle-sim. It’s also the sequel to Stronghold Crusader and people are apparently excited by that.
Should you care? I don’t know enough about this to judge to be honest. It seems fairly definitive.

Tesla Breaks the World! (PC)

What is it? A 2D puzzle platformer where you play as Nikolas Tesla and one of the bad guys is Thomas Edison.
Should you care? Man, that high concept has me sold. But yeah, the game itself looks ‘okay’.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (PC)

What is it? A first person story driven adventure-style game.
Should you care? Visually, this game is incredible. It’s worth playing for that alone. Seriously. Check this out.
