Where Is The Cheapest Copy Of Destiny In Australia?

This morning I am video game Jesus. I suffered for y’all. I rang around all the main retailers that sell video games in this country in an attempt to find the cheapest copy of Destiny. Think that wasn’t difficult? You try ringing up Kmart and finding someone who knows what a video game is!

Here’s what I found…

EB Games: $99.95 on both ‘next gen’ platforms.
JB Hi-Fi: $69.95 on both ‘next gen’ platforms.
Dick Smith: $69.98 on both ‘next gen’ platforms.
Big W: $74 on both ‘next gen’ platforms.
Target: $67 on both ‘next gen’ platforms.
Harvey Norman: $88 on Xbox One/ $98 on PS4 (Vanguard Edition)

Notes:

— The man I spoke to at Target seemed very confused and kept making a point of telling me that they would basically charge a couple of dollars less than JB Hi-Fi no matter what they sold the game at. I found this pretty hilarious. I’m guessing this means that Target intends to price match, so bear that in mind.

— Kmart was ridiculous. I called them up and the woman told me they literally cannot find out what the price will be until they scan one when the game comes in. This was confusing. Does scanning the product literally invent the price of things on the spot? Is there not a bloody central information area where you can find out the prices in advance? I asked the person this question on the phone but she got a little confused and basically just waited for me to hang up and go away.

— Big W was very keen to inform me that the price might drop on launch day. I’m guessing this means that some sort of price matching is on the cards.

— Word around the campfire is that EB will actually price match as well.

In general, it appears that Destiny is the harbinger of a retail blood bath. The end result is that you, the humble consumer, is about to get some seriously competitive pricing for the game.

Good luck everyone, and if you spot any better deals, feel free to drop them in the comments below or shoot me an email.
