As patch 6.0.2. arrives and clears the field for Warlords of Draenor the current gateway between Azeroth and Outland will be closed. One of the best things in World of Warcraft is when big events like this happen and the entire population of a server gathers to celebrate.
So here are a bunch of great screenshots from last night, as various people and from various servers gather and say goodbye to the Burning Crusade’s good old green portal.
The Dark Portal may be closing, but that doesn’t mean Outland is not accessible anymore. It will be reachable via the Blasted Lands portals in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

So the portal is now in both capital cities…. Can they dumb this game down any further?
Considering you need to go through the dark portal to access the new content in warlords, how else could they make out lands accessible without having to instance out an entire area just for one small entrance?
That’s exactly what they’ve done though, if you’re below level 90 the Blasted Lands are phased… You see the old Dark Portal through the Outland. If you’re level 90 or above you see the portal to Draenor.
Yeah I had a hiatus for a few years and was shocked at how the game had changed in that time.
I never played the Cata xpac and was actually sad to see the cosmetic changes they made, then just complete disbelief at the changes made to skill trees.
Cancelled my sub a few months ago and pretty sure I wont be back…..pretty sure.
I was originally shocked at the skill changes, but went with it. A year or so afterwards I tried out SWTOR and they had the similar old Skill tree and the frustration of skills that were “1% increased damage” going up to an entire 3% if you spend 3 points or “crirt chance on force powers increase by 2%” it seemed ludicrous.
Not to mention not being able to AFFORD new powers at my level
Man… SW:ToR. So fun but so lacking… such a love-hate relationship with that game.
They’re replacing it for the portal for Old Draenor. Not dumbed down at all dude.
You don’t even have to travel anymore!!! All that digital landscape and everyone is in Ogrimmar/Stormwind.
Don’t worry guys you stay there we will come to you. Then you can locust through the new content and go back to sitting in Ogrimmar/Stormwind.
Zero adventure…
I don’t play WoW at all… but am I right in thinking that you’re now complaining that the old “World of Walkcraft” label no longer fits? I don’t understand how not having to walk across the country side forever counts as “dumbing down”.
Delete it all then and just have Ogrimmar/Stormwind and the expansion…. Everything else is now redundant.
Nope, the new area does not have flying mounts until a later patch. Pure discovery through all of the questing which near requires you to go to every area. Please be informed before you make complaints
The ‘dumbing down’ that has been thrown around is due to the sheer amount of content in the game now, we are talking about the base game and 5 expansions!
If you had each xpac with their same original gameplay (or restrictions) then it would take forever to get to end game. This would be a nightmare for some players who may want to re-roll for endgame purposes.
Newbies are still going to take their time as it is new and exciting for them (it took me 4-5 months to get to 70 when i first played as I spent most of my time exploring) but for the rest of us who have leveled in every possible combination of ways (EK, Kalim, PvP, LFD etc) the changes have made it significantly faster.
Sure I admit some of it has gone a bit too far (I miss cross-faction hubs like Shatt and Dal), but it has done more good than harm.
You’re kidding? Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor have been around for *years*. Outland has been around *for years*. They are replacing the Portal to Outland for the Portal to *Draenor*.
And why would you be concerned about going to Outland if you are 90 already? Just seems like your complaining for the sake of complaining.
Gotta do the weekly Black Temple for Warglaive of Azzinoth & Tempest Keep for the Ashes of Al’ar! About all I can think of why you’d want to though..
Those portals have been there for like three xpacs. The only difference now is they teleport you directly into OL instead of having to run through the Dark portal after you take them.
I think I only used the portal once, the first time you get to the Outlands. Prime spot for assassins of the opposite faction though, and running towards the portal was exciting.
Because making QOL changes is dumbing down a game. No one wants complexity for the sake of complexity.
Time consuming does not = challenging
Maybe for monkey it IS actually intellectually stimulating and mentally taxing to perform tasks we consider menial and pointless.
umm ok so you want them to just build 2 big dark portals right next to each other instead then? the entire lore of the portal is evolving. opening us up to Draenor before the collapse (the past). it is entirely feasible that the magi of the horde and the alliance have been able to open portals themselves to still travel to and communicate with their forces in the Outland (Draenor after the collapse or present time)
what was the point of flying to blasted lands from stormwind to get the portal? 2 minutes to do nothing at all.
i got better things to do than wait for a bird to fly me there.
grab a mageport?
id rather be questing and playing the game over waitint for a dumb bird to fly me around
Ahhh I remember the Gankfest from when it opened all those years ago…..
