Open-world Hong Kong crime game Sleeping Dogs has gotten a “definitive edition” re-master — it’s out on PC now and hits consoles next week. While the definitive edition comes with improved graphics and includes a bunch of already-released expansion missions, my favourite improvement is less noticeable.
See, if you boot up the original version of Sleeping Dogs, you’ll get this menu screen:
The “new game” option is at the top, and is selected by default. That means that if you’re just mashing the A button to skip through the game’s intro splash screens (as we all d0), it will take you through to “new game” rather than “continue game.”
It’s a flagrant violation of one of the Ten Commandments of Video Game Menus, and was actually even an example cited in that article.
This week, I booted up the new definitive edition of the game, and what did I see?
Nice! Always good to see that there’s one less menu-sinner in the world. Three cheers for the slow march of progress.

The definitive Version is out on consoles as a Digital Purchase. Sony is offering a 10% discount if you have a PS Plus Membership. You may need to search for the game on the store in order to find it.
Anybody bought this who already owns the original PC + HD pack + All DLC and think it’s still worth paying $15 for?
If you already bought it before, skip the remaster.
This is for hardcore Sleeping Dogs fans or first-time players with next generation consoles (or want a way to buy it all-in-one for the first time on PC)
Just got it on steam. The updated textures look amazing and it runs at a solid 60fps on my rig. I have found myself on multiple occasions just completely zoning out whilst watching Wei’s hair bristle.
Games out, got it Thursday from JB, love it, looks great, but one thing is weirding me out, there’s no kung-fu training dummy in wei’s room? I thought this was coming with ALL the DLC, and I had that on 360 with the pre-
Order DLC?
Be careful people… reports have it that the definitive version runs very, very, poorly.
I’d say the best change on that menu is the lack ‘Downloadable content’ option. Yay!
(I realise that’s because it includes all the previous dlc and it’s a complete game, still good to see it gone)
Wish an Xbox One/PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption would get released, or just a new Red Dead game
You and a few million other Red Dead fans
You created a whole article for this? this is something i’d see on a forum, not a news source -_- sometimes I get real tired of Kotaku’s shitposts.
