This is one of Maersk’s Triple-E cargo ships. When it’s done, it will be the single largest ship humanity has ever built. So, yeah, seeing it under construction is pretty cool.
From Homeworld’s shipyards to Star Wars to, well, the real world, there’s something awe-inspiring about seeing giant vessels under construction. it gives you a real appreciation as to just how complex these things are, and how much work goes into them.
The Triple-E is about 400m long, and it’s so big it can’t get through the Panama Canal (it would hit the bottom).
These photos were taken by Alastair Philip Wiper and are making me feel very, very small. You can see more shots at his blog.

Would have been great to know where it was being built. Never mind, I will just Google it.
EDIT: Okay, so what Luke could have said was that there are already 11 of these ships in service (the first was delivered in July 2013) and there are another 9 planned. So it is not as if this is some new super-ship. Photos taken from South Korea.
EDIT 2: And also, not the ‘biggest ever ship’. That title belongs to the Seawise Giant. The Triple E is the largest ship currently in service though. Interestingly, the Seawise Giant was, at 458m long, longer than the Empire State Building is tall, and could not navigate through the English Channel, Suez Canal or Panama Canal due to the size of its draught. It was sunk by the Iraqi air force during the Iraq-Iran war in the 1980s.
