This Week In Games

This week is a bit of a humdinger. Particularly if you’re a fan of two series in particular. For most of you I suspect this week will be Civ week, with Civilization: Beyond Earth hitting stores. Some of you will be super hyped for Bayonetta 2, given that one, it’s Bayonetta and the first game was brilliant and two, it’s reviewed spectacularly well. I am keen.

But Sign Motion is the surprise package of the week. I highly suggest checking it out. It has a super cool high concept. I’m definitely going to check it out. Oh, Screencheat is awesome as well.

Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)

What is this? It’s the new Bayonetta, probably the best and biggest Wii U exclusive of the holiday season.
Should you care? It’s reviewing incredibly well and I loved the first one. I’ll be playing.

Disney Magical World (3DS)

What is this? It’s a game that is basically a celebration of all that is Disney.
Should you care? Apparently it’s pretty good, particularly for Disney fans. Basically Warren Spector is going to love this game.

Dreamfall Chapters (PC)

What is this? I thought this came out last week. Too many video games. An episodic story-driven adventure game set in a cyberpunk version of the future.
Should you care? This looks really, really cool. Word on the street is it’s pretty good.

Just Dance 2015 (360/Wii)

What is this? Just Dance is still a thing. It’s still going. This is the new one.
Should you care? If you like Just Dance, chances are you’ll like this game.

Poltergeist: A Pixelated Horror (PC)

What is this? It’s a story about being a ghost apparently.
Should you care? I suggest playing Ghost Trick instead. Ghost Trick is great.

Prophour23 (PC)

What is this? An endlessly replayable strategy game that looks outright weird. I have no idea what’s going on here. Basically you build an organism out of organs or something.
Should you care? Man, I don’t understand this game at all. That doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Screencheat (PC)

What is this? It’s the game that harks back to old school shooters of yore by forcing its players to ‘Screencheat’. An amazing high concept, well executed.
Should you care? I played this a month or so and absolutely loved it.

Sign Motion (PC)

What is this? A dazzlingly original game about a boy who escapes from a road sign. This is impossible to explain, but amazing in action. You have to check this out.
Should you care? I’m definitely going to play this. I found out this game exists today, and wow.

Shadow Warrior (Xbox One/PS4)

What is this? It’s an old-schoolish shooter based on the 1997 game of the same name.
Should you care? Apparently it’s pretty good. Older gamers might get a kick out of this throwback.

Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth (PC)

What is this? It’s Civ man. It’s Civ.
Should you care? Yes. Of course. It’s Civ.

Sproggiwood (PC)

What is this? A turn-based roguelike.
Should you care? Looks a bit blergh. I’m going to say no.

The Legend of Korra (PC)

What is this? It’s the video game based on the Nickelodeon that looks like an anime, but is actually made in the west (but still good).
Should you care? I think this is probably a ‘for the fans’ production.

Time Rifters (PC)

What is this? It’s a shooter with a weird/awesome art style. Apparently it lets you control your team-mates, but I have no idea how that works.
Should you care? I don’t know enough about it to judge. It looks interesting.
