A sequel to Buckaroo Banzai isn’t in the works as far as we know. And that’s terrible. But if Hollywood ever comes to its sense, there’s an awesome movie poster ready to tell people about the return of the best genius weirdo action hero ever.
You’ve wondered to yourself, “Y’know, a Last Starfighter sequel would be rad, with all of the improved movie-making and game-making technology we’ve got in the year 2014.” So has artist Doaly, one of a couple dozen artists who’ve designed movie posters for promoting non-existent sequels for beloved films as part of the Sequel art show. This weekend in Los Angeles, geek art gallery I Am 8-Bit is displaying posters for Fight Club 2, 2084 and a would-be Blade Runner successor as part of its Sequel exhibit. You can check it out for free too. More info on the gallery’s official site.

Yes please, grew up on the original
I’d be down for a second Rocketeer film.
I would watch pretty much all of these, regardless of quality.
Oh Man I would pay real money to see a Last Starfighter sequel.
But only if they rendered the scenes on an old Cray again.
I’d be happy for now if they released the *first* Last Starfighter movie on DVD or Blu-Ray. You can import the US version, but I don’t think I’ve seen it on the shelves since the days of VHS.
A sequel would definitely be worthwhile, although getting the plot right might be hard. Maybe have Alex Rogan recruiting using a game with a different setting…
It was on GO! Last summer – expect again this year I reckon – brilliant movie!
Toatally agree re Last Starfighter. Though Labyrinth 2 would really go down a treat in my home.
Labyrinth 2 is totally doable, since neither Jennifer Connelly or Bowie appear to age. Hoggle probably has seen better days, though.
Ah, the Last Starfighter. Though you took something from gaming to tell you story, you gave us something awesome in return — the death blossom. Whether it was intended or not, I think this finally gave a name to something we all probably have done in games in one form or another — let rip with everything you’ve got when you’re surrounded by enemies, and hope that you survive. My example of this is old school Mechwarrior 2 days, when you’d get in a jam and shoot basically everything in your arsenal and hope that you killed everything and your mech didn’t overheat and blow up. Good times.
In Spaceballs, Yogurt said they’d meet again in ‘Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money’.
But a couple of those I would love to see a sequel.
Last Starfighter for sure because we really haven’t had an awesome space epic/opera in quite some time.
