A junior high school the city of Mishima, Japan figured out a way to make school lunches fun: Serve Ghibli food.
Recently a school flier for “Ghibli School Lunches” appeared on Twitter, racking up 14,000 retweets. Below, you can see the flier, which states that the Ghibli lunches will be served between 27 October and 31 October.

As noted on NicoNico, the flier featured images from various Studio Ghibli anime (including The Castle of Cagliostro, which isn’t technically Studio Ghibli). So, of course, people online thought the school’s food would look exactly like the Ghibli food.
Well, it doesn’t really. Some of it, however, still looks rather tasty. Below, via the school’s blog, you can see how the real food stacks up to the anime originals. The date for each school lunch is listed.
27 October
28 October
October 29
30 October
31 October
Some of these look more like the Ghibli originals than others. Obviously, school cafeterias have to make a lot of food in a very short time, and in Japan, at least, that food needs to be healthy. So, ultimately, whether the school created perfect fascimiles of Ghibli food is besides the point. Still, while the school could’ve managed expectations a little better, it’s good to see it tried to make lunchtime more interesting for the students.

Ohhh that fish pie thing from Kiki’s had me grossed out enough in the film, not a fan of fish :'(
I like fish, but not in a pie!
I would try a fish pie.
Is it just me, or do most of them look nothing like the one in the cartoon…
Well they are still school dinners.
One of them is meant to be Spaghetti almost anybody could whip up a batch of spaghetti and make it look like the one in Porco Rosso. I make Spaghetti once a week and it almost always looks like that.
I know this is school food but I can’t help being disappointed.
Especially at the ham (hamu) ramen. 🙁
