While we know about some tweaks and additions coming to Destiny alongside the game’s expansions, Bungie today spoke a little about some other changes coming to the game. And some of those changes are very, very welcome.
Mentioned briefly and with little additional information (at least for now), Bungie says players can soon expect:
- New shaders for your gear
- Ways to preview items before you spend your Glimmer
- Greater chances of “showers” in public spaces
- Adjustments to some arenas that needed better traffic flow
- New economies to equip you with upgrade materials
- Fixes, patches, and other invisible technical evolutions
- Some other tricks up our sleeve
- Maybe even a more generous Cryptarch (he’ll still be sort of a bastard)
New shaders? Previewing items? A more generous Cryptarch? Yes, yes and yes.

Only 10 years away from a full game ay?
“Today”? This was from their weekly update on Saturday.
Yeah, colour me disappointed as well. That was a decent update for interest, but light on specifics. And given that there’s only a handful of weeks between now and DLC for them to deliver the ‘several bundles of joy’ ‘in the weeks to come’, I kinda hoped this would be more concrete news of one of those.
Will we get to equip sandels for the public showers?
Or thongs? (Either the American or Australian kind. It’s all good in public showers.)
Will they combine the new shaders and showers to make a public golden shower?
That’s a question that had to be asked!
What’s this shower business? The linked page didn’t seem to help
I had to google it, apparently its more than 1 engram dropping from an enemy.
So DIablo 3 style loot from bosses? That’d be nice.

Thanks!
I’d be happy with even a SINGLE engram dropping from a boss, rather than just house banners/ether seeds…
I’m pretty sure they are public events. The whole sky going dark and things falling from the sky
These all seem like pretty minor changes to me, and it’s nothing that’s going to entice me back to the game.
Exactly.
Definitely a too little too late situation if they think it will retain players
You’re right…feels like everyone’s already bailed to CoD and Halo MCC….
I like Bungie and don’t like to see them fail…but I also kiiiinda want to see them hurt from this, just so they know they did a crap job and need to wake up

Put in a map. I can’t believe for a wannabe rpg they haven’t got a map
Apparently a map will be implemented in the future. DeeJ responded to someone on the forums asking about one. He said the team has been talking it over and is a likely addition that will be put in.
Why not have it from the start though. Seems like such a big oversight.
Agreed
It feels like they used the public beta instead of an actual beta and’re just figuring out the balancing 2 months after release.
My PS Plus sub expired last week and I can’t renew it until the end of this week but I can’t say I’ve been missing playing the same stuff over and over and I won’t be rushing back to play it either.
I think the game was released in a slap-dashed fashion, half cut up and rushed. Either they were rushed for time for release date, or the game was significantly changed up to their initial plan for it (as seen in other threads).
How about a cohesive story? no?
ok. 🙁
Halo MCC is out for xbox one, will anyone really want to play Destiny on XB1 with a game that has better story and much more refined shooting mechanics and guess what it’s 10 years old
Sad to be Destiny right now.
This headline is just plain odd. Excellent changes? Honestly there’s nothing in that list that could be described as excellent. I’m baffled.
