An actual working 3D effect and a useless nerfed nipple stick is surprising? Well, I guess, in a bad way.

Alien: Isolation
I was hyped for it but was expecting a let down not a potential GOY and what could possibly spark a resurgence in real stealth/survival type games.

Borderlands!

What was surprising there though? It was exactly the game that everyone was expecting.

Awwh, booo. My Destiny nomination didn’t make it. 🙁

Mordor. The lead-up to it with the controversy over the dodgy Youtube deals and all that… I was expecting a stinker. But it was great!
blackdahlianz
Definitely Shadow of Mordor.

Wolfenstein for me. Who would have expected that a new Wolfenstein released in 2014 would be that good?
General Admiral Aladeen
I agree.

Hyrule Warriors, expected it to just be a fun weekend game, but was still playing it daily up until Smash Bros released.

Impressed Marvel Heroes 2015 gets a mention. For an F2P game that had such a horrid launch, it’s now far & away one of the best ARPGs I’ve played in a long, long time.

Wolfenstein. Genuinely did not expect to have as much fun as I did, for it to look as gorgeous as it did, or to play as well as it did!

WOD was waaaaay better than i was expecting after Pandaria.

Alien: Isolation for me. The new WoW expansion comes close.
I didn’t have high hopes at all after Colonial Marines and Creative Assembly’s botched launch of Total War Rome 2, but it actually turned out to be a great game.

Ooh. Touch choice between Bayo and n3DS.
