She Hears A Nintendo Theme Once, Then Makes Beautiful Music

Sonya Belousova is one of today's most accomplished young composers and pianists. Watch her demonstrate her skill by listening to a series of Nintendo themes -- most for the first time ever -- and then coming up with gorgeous arrangements on the spot.

I can pick out a tune on just about any instrument you put in front of me, but what Sonya of PlayerPianoMusic.com does in this video, a few weeks old but currently making the Reddit rounds, is some sort of dark melodic sorcery.

While the themes from games like Kid Icarus, Castlevania, Duck Tales and Mega Man are ingrained in the collective gamer consciousness, Russian-born Belousova is hearing most of these for the first time, save the original Super Mario Bros. music.

Her Duck Tales moon theme arrangement literally brought a tear to my eye.

The video was put together as a reward for one of Player Piano Music's Indiegogo campaign. Good man, Oliver.

    Love the moon theme.

Also, Sonya's got skills to pay the bills! So damn talented!

Pfft, what stupid hyperbole Fahey. Absolute stupid and over the top writing.
    *listens*

    *sniff*

    Me too Fahey, me too.

(Honestly what I thought - hyperbole - honestly what I did - start welling up)

Are you inside my head right now? I thought that only worked on John Malkovich.

Holy.... Just. Wow. That moon theme arrangement. I came in with low to middling expectations. I didn't expect to be emotionally carried away by such a beautiful piece.

Just goes to show many of these themes aren't just good game music. They're good music, full stop.

    Reply fail.

after that I'm now inclined to dig up every DT moon remix I can find on OCRemix

They should team up with Lindsey Stirling

I love the violin in all it's glory, but what's with her videos?

Watching her hands pounce after hitting a note makes me think of guitar hero and the notes wizzing past.

The Moon theme was great but it bothered me every time that she didn't complete it! All of Moon theme up til the repeat is fantastic, stopping short just hurts!
