Skylanders: Trap Team Introduces Two New Elements: Light And Dark

There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side… and the light… of Skylanders. Having teased players since the game’s October release, Activision finally reveals the two new elements being added to the Skylanders universe starting December 21.

Since October 2 players have been banging their heads against the unknown element gates and cursing the unknown element bosses in Skylanders: Trap Team. This is because Activision and Toys For Bob for some reason decided to introduce two new elements to the series original eight — Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Life, Tech, Undead and Magic — as physical downloadable content, rather than introduce them when the latest game launched.

Light and Dark were what fans were expecting (some were thinking Sun and Moon), and Light and Dark is what we’re getting on December 21 via a pair of Elemental Quest Packs, each featuring a larger Trap Master figure, a corresponding trap for capturing similarly-aligned in-game villains and an adventure piece which unlocks a new level in the game. These levels will feature new captureable villains, making the two $US29.99 packs essential for players looking to complete their enemy collection.

On the Light side we’ve got the Light Elemental Expansion Pack. It includes the Sunscraper Spire adventure level, a lovely crystal bird trap and Knight Light, a majestic bird warrior wielding a crystal Traptanium sword.

In Darkness we have, of course, the Dark Element Expansion Pack. It contains the Midnight Museum adventure, a black translucent spider trap and Knight Mare (sensing a theme), a centaur wielding a black bastard sword.

Both sides will also introduce new regular-sized Skylanders figures, the dragons Spotlight and Blackout, who look like something Bayonetta would waste no time dispatching.

By releasing these new Light and Dark figures on December 21 at Toys’R’Us, Activision ensures one final pre-Christmas run to the toy store for hundreds of thousands of parents across the country, the jerks.
