Huh, so this is pretty cool. After 21 months of silence, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Rock Band 3are getting some new songs, developer Harmonix announced today. It might seem strange for a game released in 2010 to get new content so late in the game. But then again: it’s not like people have stopped making music!
Harmonix said that Rock Band 3 is getting a new song from each of the following bands tomorrow: Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, and Avenged Sevenfold. Here’s the specific pricing info from their blog post:
Available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 system (January 13th, 2015):
- Arctic Monkeys — “R U Mine?”
- Avenged Sevenfold — “Shepherd Of Fire”
- Foo Fighters — “Something From Nothing”
Price:
$US1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU per songThese tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation®3 system January 21)
Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change
I know what you’re thinking: not one of these songs comes from Taylor Swift’s stupendous 2014 album “1989.” I’m sad about that, too. But hey, if we were able to convince Harmonix to add “Call Me Maybe” to Rock Band, I see no reason that Tay couldn’t make it in as well…as long as she wouldn’t try to pull another “No Swift For You” move like she did with Spotify last year. Fingers crossed.

There’s no reason to download a Taylor Swift song. Unless you’re contributing to an internet movement to inspire her to wtite a song about how no-one downloaded her song – and then not download it.
Have you actually heard anything from her new album? It’s damn good. Sure, there are some cringeworthy lyrics in there, but the synth work is really nice and there are some very catchy melodies. I say this as a musician and someone who listens to more obscure music than most.
Given that it sold over 1 million copies and received critical acclaim, I doubt she’d need to worry about nobody downloading it.
I’d rather listen to the new wave of pop artists (Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, etc.) than anyone from that terrible Lady Gaga / Ke$ha / Black Eyed Peas era a few years back. Pop’s in the best shape it’s been in for years right now.
No I haven’t, and no, I have no intention of doing so. I totally respect your opinion though, musician or not – pop just isn’t my thing. And if I ever get caught tapping along to Taylor Swift I hope someone punches me in the ear.
Well that’s your call I guess. What I will say though is that Rock influenced by only other Rock is called Nickelback. I don’t know what your tastes are, but you never know, you might hear elements in other genres that really resonate with you. Even if they don’t, hearing it just improves your appreciation and awareness of music in all its forms. Making a call before you’ve given it a chance means you’re the only one missing out.
I mean, nobody’s born a metalhead for example. There was once a time when they heard a metal song and blocked their ears. It’s only when you give something a chance that you can grow to appreciate it.
Yes!
We just dug the instruments out of the shed last week, and had a damn fine time. Some new content is most welcome!
I’m surprised they haven’t released a Starlord Awesome Mix-Tape pack.
Hury the fuck up and release a new instrument bundle for the xbone/ps4 on a $15 a month subscription service.
YESSSSSS
They farnsey’d rock band?! That’s great!
Time to rummage through the shed for that drum set…
Wow, did NOT see that coming!
I’m glad new songs are being released. A shame I don’t know these songs despite being a fan of two of those bands. Time to hit youtube to see if it’s worth it.
I remember being quite sad they were stopping DLC (only franchise I’ll ever say that about.) Downloading American Pie was a bittersweet moment for me.
Omg omg omg. Thanks harmonix. Will be buying all 3 songs to support you. Really hope we see Rock Band 4 on next gen this year :). Maybe they are testing the waters to see if we still rock. 🙂
Whoa… people still play this? I didn’t realise it was still 2010!
I whipped out the plastic to play by myself just the other day. Then I played Rock Band! I’ll see myself out.
Anyway I’m very happy to see anything new for Rock Band. Hopefully we’ll see some more content in the near future.
Yeah, I mean, releasing DLC for something this old is still good though.
Where is the DLC?. I dont see it on the Aus Psn store 🙁
