The Colder It Is Outside, The Less This Game Will Cost

The Colder It Is Outside, The Less This Game Will Cost

Most people don’t hope the temperature drops, but in the case of A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build, the colder it is outside, the less you’ll have to pay to start playing this charming puzzler.

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Find launches on Steam and other places tomorrow. Eventually, it will cost $US12 to buy it, but for nearly two weeks, the temperature will guide the game’s price. As someone currently living through subzero temperatures, I wholeheartedly approve of this.

Here’s a brief trailer of the game to explain what’s going on:

And here’s what the designer, Alan Hazelden, told me about how the promotion literally works:

“Just before having his tea every day (5-6pm GMT), the monster goes out to the weather station in London to check the day’s temperature. The colder it is, the more snow you’re likely to have. The more snow you have, the more you’re going to need this guide, so the monster is going to make it cheaper. He wants the world to be filled with lots of lovely snowmen! He sets the price of the game accordingly: so if the temperature in London is 8°C, the game will be priced at $US8 for the next 24 hours!”

I’ve played a few levels of A Good Snowman, and cute doesn’t begin to describe it. There’s a playfulness to the world that makes even the most frustrating puzzle a joy to poke around at.

If you don’t want to check weather.com every day, a handy Twitter account will update the price.
