The biggest news of the day is undoubtedly that there are plans to make a live-action series on Netflix based on The Legend of Zelda. While it’s not clear whether or not the series will happen, the very idea has people talking.
Can you imagine it? Who would they cast? Hell, would it be good? Most people are sceptical, especially given previous attempts at Zelda shows, and Nintendo movies. Nevermind the fact that the show is supposed to be a family-friendly take on Game of Thrones. Lots of people can’t help but crack jokes about the idea of a live-action Zelda series, too. The idea just sounds so goofy. Of course, there’s always the possibility that a Netflix series could be great, too. If anyone could pull it off, it would be Netflix. And so reactions range from incredulous, to pumped, and just about everything in-between.
Here’s what the internet has to say about Zelda on Netflix.

The expected run of the Zelda netflix series is 12 eps, but if you’re a completionist there’ll be an extra 8 episodes of Link finding hearts

Genuinely surprised this might be happening. Nintendo has been extremely cautious since the Mario Bros live action film.
If I recall correctly, the rumor was talks broke down when a Metroid movie was on the tables after the studio expressed interest in taking liberties with Samus’s history and back story
Or HBO, or Showtime, or FX, or… basically any Cable channel? You don’t really give a solid case as to *why* Netflix is the only one here?
BECAUSE BRAND LOYALTY, BITCH. (nah, I totally agree with you.)
I just imagined Hyrule High. “Can Link get the princess, teach the bully Ganandorf a lesson and pass his biology test?” ~Cue Link on skateboard wearing sunnies~
LOL
“Hey everyone its Principle Ganondorf!”
*OOOOOOOOOOOOOH”
School Mascot Epona “Oh man he’s given Link a detention!”
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*
Cheerleader Zelda “Hey Link it’s ok, I’ll come over after you’re home and help you with… homework!”
Link “…”
*WOO WOO WOO WOO!* *Raucous laughter*
I think they will do a more gritty modern take on zelda, where link is a private detective, ganon is a crime boss, zelda is ganon’s daughter (conflicted about what her father does for a living). Hyrule will just be New York and navi will be AI that get’s put into smartwatch thank link creates. Also link will pretty much be sherlock holmes.
The only channel that should have the rights is HBO. Let’s face it, the voiceless Link and his repertoire of grunts and groans are a shoe-in for a soft porn Game Of Thrones style adult adventure.
Netflix: Let’s base it off Wind Waker!
Fanbase: ugh! WTF? OOT is the best game ever made!
Netflix: Ok, let’s base it around Ocari-
Fanbase: Kiddy shit! Majora’s Mask is a far more mature game!
Netflix: Ok, Majo-
Fanbase: so edgy! Twilight Princess plox! Midna is mai waifu.
Netflix: …Twil-
Fanbase: OG Zelda yo!
Netflix: Z-
Fanbase: Skyward Sword!
Netflix: …
Fanbase: Link’s Awakening!
Netflix: Fine! We’re making a series not based on any of the Zelda time lines!
Fanbase: Ugh, what’s the point? Shitty cash in. Might as well not even be called Zelda.
Hmmm, a live action legend of zelda said to be a lighter take on game of thrones, hmmmm, i think it should showcase the nightmarish aspects of the series whilst keeping it kid friendly ala magica madoka, some of these aspects should include the following: the sheikah being assassins, ganondorf leading the gerudo into battle then using guerilla style tactics, the zoa being very proficient aquatic predators plus lots more to include. But, if the want to make it for teenage audiences & up, they could include the rape in pillaging & raping for the gerudo as it makes them someone who could who could share the terror of the practice on both genders. But the most important thing is this: can link be as positive about things & be as stoic whilst witnessing nightmarish things going on around him like samus or struggle to keep his head on like guts. What i said in this comment are things that i want addressed in this series
There is no possible way this can work. At least half the fanbase is going to hate it for starters, we just won’t know which half until they release a preview.
And from here we know there is no way that Netflix will recoup the amount of money it will cost to create respectable scenes and sets. (Using the film Hook as a general benchmark of what will be expected).
The only thing they have going for them is that pottery is cheap.
