Life’s going to be a hurricane in Duckburg all over again. Scrooge McDuck and his less well-off family members are coming back in an all-new cartoon series.
The news hit this morning from an official Disney statement, which also notes that the cast of characters from the original late ’80s cartoon series will be showing up:
The new series will star the same beloved characters as the old: Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Launchpad McQuack, Donald Duck, Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell, Poe, Ma Beagle, the Beagle Boys, Mrs. Beakley, and Webbigail Vanderquack.
Ducktales — inspired by the brilliant comics work of legendary comics artist Carl Barks — was the source material for one of the most beloved platformers of all time and the enthusiastic response to last year’s announcement of Ducktales Remastered might have been one of the things that helped tip the odds in favour of a new cartoon show. But, the odds on this show not being a CGI production? Probably not good. It’s too soon to say if any new games will come as a result but Disney sure does love its merch.

Duck Tales! Woo-oo
Everyday they’re out there making,
Duck Tales! Woo-oo
Tales of daring-do bad and good
Duck Tales! Woo-oo
Brilliant news!!, put a smile on my dial for a Thursday.
now if only they re-released Quackshot….
Love the idea. But I’d prefer the remaining episodes of the original series to be released on DVD.
Despite their being three volumes, there is around 20 or so still unreleased on DVD.
This. And while they’re at it, they can release the remaining episodes of Chip ‘N Dale, Darkwing Duck, The Muppet Show, and all the other shows they’ve only partially released and then given up on.
Big shoes to fill. The original series is still very high quality with production costs you just don’t see in this type of cartoon anymore.
Throw lots of money at the animation department Disney, this IP deserves it.
Would also like a new Gummi Bears, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck and Talespin please.
Yes! The cartoons on now are rubbish. I want my son to have something decent to watch in a couple of years.
Not all, Adventure Time is OK up to a point (like Harry Potter the series has been maturing so it’s a shifting demographic).
If you’d like desent cartoons, your best bet is to try and import the DVDs from Amazon as most are unlikely to appear on DVD again (or ever for that matter) and this price gouging is just out of control here.
See case in point, DuckTales and Ninja Turtles: Americans get box sets which cost around 10-15 each while here each box set is unbundled and the disks sold at 25-30 or higher.
3 words, Phineas and Ferb. One of my favorite cartoons of all time.
This is why I pirated all my childhood cartoons. When my little brother was born I promised my parents that I would bring him up on real cartoons, not today’s hyperactive crap. He’s 12 now and would prefer sitting down with me to watch G1 Transformers, Ducktales, TMNT, Inspector Gadget than watching things like Regular Show and Adventure time. Heck, the kid loves old school Power Rangers.
I’ve said to my girlfriend that if we have kids, they get the same treatment, she couldn’t agree fast enough with that idea (cartoons, not having kids)
Yes, bring back Darkwing Duck!
Oh oh ohhh oh oh oh ohh ohhhh oh TALESPIN.
Yes please.
I just wish they’d put those old shows on DVD or something. Yes, I’m an old person who doesn’t know how to import (I do though, I’m just lazy) and uses region locked DVD players….
It’s all on YouTube, if you don’t mind pretending you’re watching VHS (which kind of adds to the nostalgia kick) it isn’t too bad.
Oh wow, youre right! I don’t know why I’d already resigned to the fact that Disney would have taken them all offline, but doing a quick search, they’re all there! There’s even “Raw Toonage”!
‘It’s badly animated man! ‘
Loved Raw Toonage.
It might explain why Disney hasn’t released DVDs to the final portion of some cartoons. They saw YouTube and though “Yay! Free publication of old classics! Let’s cancel the DVDs as anyone who wants the stuff can go to YouTube.”
I will cross my fingers for two years that this is a hand-drawn show…!! Also patiently waiting for WayForward to announce a remastered version of Duck Tales 2 on N.E.S.
Not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, it could be great. On the other, DuckTales was one of the formative shows of my childhood and given how every other reboot of things I loved as a kid has gone, I’m not sure I trust anyone to do it justice.
Really really hope they retain the old charm and simplicity of the original series and don’t try to make it all hip for kids and shit.
They had better use the Jr. Woodchuck Guide Book to ensure they don’t get lost and screw this up. They also need to work in a way for some one to say “A SEA MONSTER ATE MY ICE CREAM!!!”
