Rockstar released these Grand Theft Auto V screens over the weekend. They’re for the PC version of the game, which after delay after delay is finally hitting on April 14.
They look pretty good! As in, they look good, duh, but if you look closely (click on the magnifying glass in the top-left corner of each pic) you’ll still see pixels and polygons and stuff that’s real and expected from a video game (and not, you know, a fantasy).
You should save and treasure these screens. They’re the last ones of the PC version you’ll ever see that aren’t full of Sailor Moon and Iron Man mods.

I can hear my PC crying out in pain right now.
My poor GTX780 🙁
That’s better than a console! I’m sure your GTX 780 should easily handle it.
I’ve got GTX 780 TI and run games at 1440p with an average 50-60fps.
if gta 4 is anything to go by this will not run anywhere near as well as on consoles. in all likelyhood your computer will need to demolish the recommended specs to run it well at high settings.
780 (especially the TI) is only marginally worse than the 900 series, it’s well over the recommended requirements for the game.
Looks really good but I bet the modders will take it and improve on it eg GTA IV
You don’t buy gta on pc for the vanilla expirence.
i am, until ive had all the fun i can first. then once i get bored, ill maybe mod it then.
Oh my. that looks beautiful 🙂 I guess I’m mostly looking forward to the first person aspect.
What R* did was move the camera to the eye area, which creates a fantastically pure FP perspective. In its un-tweaked form you will watch the world spin as you roll or get washed down a river, but you can change many options to avoid the sickening motion sickness that comes from rag dolling etc.
The biggest flaw for FP is the fact the game isn’t built for it, it is an added feature for a 3rd person game. Seeing the inside of vehicles is awesome, but can be very restricting and impractical. When on foot, even with an increased field of view, it becomes difficult to keep track of the countless directions that enemies can approach, online especially.
If lock on is used, it can be extremely disorientating. And while most will prefer free aim lobbies, in the name of progression in the online side lock on is a much faster way of completing objectives to keep the cashflow rolling in and avoiding the speed in which NPC’s can dish out damage in force.
Thankfully you can choose to swap between 1st and 3rd person perspectives for different actions like driving and cover, but you will find that 1st person can quickly become something you just muck around in and not play with in serious modes and missions.
You’re forgetting mouse and keyboard controls. If done well, it’ll be hella fun. And even if not, I’m sure someone will mod in FOV/sensitivity tweaks and damage-direction graphics
are you sure those things are ‘impractical’ and not just how it is in first person? you can’t see behind you in real life why should you be able to see enemies behind you in first person in the game, in a car you will see the interior of the car before the outside world. i completely disagree it’s something that you ‘just play around with’ did you put any effort into it at all? it’s no different to other FPS games, just as difficult to do what you want, it’s in fact easier because of the optional auto aim.
100% as I’m discussing a 3rd person game with a 1st person option, not real life. Yes I am sure it is impractical when compared to 3rd person, remembering the game was designed around that view with 1st person being an addition, so very different from FPS game for obvious reasons.
Sure, in real life you are restricted to seeing the inside of a vehicle before the outside world, but you, the NPC’s and other players are not restricted in game. If you want to drive in 1st person fine, but with the head turn blur, small windows, vehicle movement, traffic and blind spots you are at a disadvantage because another less restricting option exists.
One example, cover. In 3rd person I can look around the area without standing up, vertically and horizontally. I can make sure the half cover doesn’t leave the top of my head poking out or my elbow on corner cover and can make adjustments for blind firing without having to reveal myself.
None of these are possible from 1st person as it is from your eye view while being in the cover animation, not the traditional ducking motion of traditional FPS.
I play a crap ton of GTA, so yes, I have put time and effort in to 1st person mode. But I’m not going to pretend that it is in anyway better or less restricting than 3rd person in terms of gameplay.
This is why they have added extensive options that allow you to chop and change when and where 1st person is used. For example 1st person on foot, 3rd person while driving and in cover etc.
Nobody is picking on 1st person or FPS games here buddy….just saying how things are in game.
Agreed, namikariu. Its a first person mode added to a game with designed to be a third person experience and its noticeable in a million little ways.
Well… you cannot really say that it’s not delayed, Rockstar says the new PC trailer will be out this week and they could announce a delay then, they have two days, i think it’s in Steams developers license agreement that any delays have to be notified a maximum of two weeks before release which gives Rockstar until the 1st.
My PC is ready.
The joke was that the screenshots aren’t delayed…
I will not believe it has not been delayed again until it is actually released
i… i think i need to go and upgrade all the things.
