Hoax Alert: The Grandson Of Sony’s President Didn’t Fry A Pistol

I’m not even sure that Sony President Kaz Hirai has a grandson or even a son for that matter. But I am certain that, despite Twitter claims, this is bullshit.

In the photo, a young man is surrounded by girls who are pointed to the handgun he’s apparently fried in home economics class. It’s a striking photo, and the kid has a “how you like me now?” expression on his face.

The accompanying tweet claims, “Here is the grandson of Sony’s President.” Once again, it’s not. The picture, however, is real.

The tweet was uploaded yesterday afternoon and has since been retweeted over five thousand times and favorited over four thousand times, with people thinking that, yes, this is real.

The Twitter user even stoked those notions in the replies, trying to work out the maths that would support the idea that the 54 year-old Hirai had a 13 year-old grandchild. It’s certainly possible! But that’s not why this is most certainly a fake.

As pointed out on one of Japan’s most popular video game blogs, Hachima, the image is actually from the tweeter feed for the TV version of manga Great Teacher Onizuka. The photo was originally uploaded in 2014, along with a close-up of the fried gun.

Which once again proves that anything looks delicious fried. Even guns.
