Everything That Happened At Kotaku Australia’s Bloodborne Launch Event

Last night, to celebrate the launch of Bloodborne here in Australia, Kotaku Australia put together an event. We ate, we drank, we watched competition winner Sterne He face his fear and — of course — we played Bloodborne.

A good time was had by all. I ate a lot of Wagyu beef.

We kicked the night off with a nice little message from Bloodborne Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa. He said the words ‘Kotaku Australia’ out loud and I was pretty happy about that.

Then the moment of truth arrived: we premiered the video of competition winner Sterne He facing his fear, by being locked in a coffin.

Buried Alive: Kotaku’s Bloodborne Competition Winner Faces His Fear

Shock twist: I was way, way more afraid of being locked in a coffin than Sterne was. I am genuinely, legitimately claustrophobic as hell. I couldn’t handle it. I’m having palpitations just thinking about it…

I had an absolute blast at the event. I had a couple of tries at the first couple of Bloodborne bosses — and failed miserably, as per usual. The real highlight of the night — for me — was watching Sterne taking on The Cleric Beast for the first time. Sterne won our competition, but he’s also a ridiculously experienced Dark Souls player. A massive crowd watched Sterne play Bloodborne on the massive projector we had set up. He took his time, collected a ton of additional weapons to use — mainly molotov cocktails. When he finally summoned up the courage to face The Cleric Beast, he was ready.

It was one of the longest boss battle fights I’ve ever seen. He was patient. Almost too patient. Sterne took his time, worked out the patterns, and plenty of times I almost screamed out for him to charge in and finish the job.

But he didn’t. Sterne did his thing and took out the boss first time to rapturous cheering and applause. Good times.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the event! Hope you are all enjoying Bloodborne!
