Following the passing of Leonard Nimoy last week, space games like Star Trek Online, Elite: Dangerous, and Star Citizen all have heart-warming plans to memorialise the man who brought Spock to life.
Nimoy lent his voice to, you guessed it, Spock in Star Trek Online — players hear a short blurb voiced by him whenever they enter a new sector of the game for the first time. Really, it’s only natural for the game to commemorate him in some way right now. As spotted by Polygon, Steve Ricossa, an executive producer on Star Trek Online, recently announced the development team’s tribute plans on the STO forums:
I want to once again express my heartfelt condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Leonard Nimoy. Everyone at Cryptic Studios was saddened to hear of his passing and we want to make sure we never forget the cultural impact of the man or the character he played. To that end, the Star Trek Online team will implement a standing in-game memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy this Thursday March 5th with our regular weekly maintenance.
In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts.
LLAP
Players on Star Trek Online have found their own ways of paying respects to Nimoy already — as MrMorlonelycat posted on Reddit, many players logged in to the in-game version of Vulcan, the planet that Spock hailed from. Hearteningly, around a thousand players congregated and paid their respects. You can see some of these players together here:
Given Nimoy’s immense influence on the sci-fi world, it’s probably not surprising to hear that Star Trek Online isn’t the only game memorialising him in some way. Eurogamer reports that Elite: Dangerous, an outer-space sim that lets you take on the role of a space commander, has memorial plans as well. According to executive producer Michael Brookes, an upcoming Elite: Dangerous expansion will bring with it a “Nimoy Memorial station.” Neat!
Similarly, space sim Star Citizen plans to add something special to the game to commemorate Nimoy. “I think it’s safe to say that Mr. Nimoy was an inspiration to all of us on the team, both acting as Spock and because of his core, kind humanity,” Ben Lesnick, a developer on the game, wrote on Star Citizen’s forums. “We will find an appropriate way to honour him.”

Good bye Spock/Master Xehanort/William Bell
i love him for star trek and such, but he deserves a lot of credit for Xehanort, he played it really well when he totally could have just half-assed it.
Makes me sad that now there’s no chance he’ll be able to reprise the role in KH3 🙁
I really don’t think he could’ve half assed it at all, the man was a pro.
From Galvatron in the old Transformers to Sentinel Prime in the new films and so many in between, his narration and voice acting was always delivered with clear skill and effort.
He really did give character to Master Xehanort. Not a single out of place line at all.
vale leonard nimoy and farwell mr spock as a 9 year old in 1966 you and the star trek team gave me so much joy and wonderment that i looked forward to each week and got me hooked on sci-fi.
Not going to say the usual stuff we are going to hear over and over again – he DID live long and he DID prosper…. In life he was truly one of a kind – a true legend – in death may he become absolutely legendary – RIP LEONARD NEMOY – Spock you will be missed
There are a tonne of players out in their TOS/TMP Connies in tribute, too!
