Rome wasn’t built in a day, but I’m starting to get the impression that Cities: Skylines players could’ve made it happen. The game’s only been out for a few days and someone’s already made an eerily accurate recreation of Grand Theft Auto V‘s Los Santos.
Steam user grockefeller created a mod that adds the impressively detailed recreation to Cities. Here’s how they describe it:
“Here’s the completely built region of South San Andreas including the cities of Los Santos, Palomino, and Sandy Shores. Ever wanted to challenge and continue the vibrant metropolis of Rockstar Games? Now you can! You’ll have to deal with multiple problems like employment, ecology, waste disposal, and water [sic] gestion.”
Sounds pleasant! I find their failure to mention, you know, CRIME conspicuous, but whatever.
You can download Los Santos into your Cities: Skylines game with a quick click on Steam Workshop. Give it a go, if you’re feeling so inclined. And now, more pretty pictures:
And here are a few shots from GTA V, for comparison:

Is that first GTA V image really a screenshot. Legit looks like a photograph. Goddamn.
I think you may be right.
I have played a lot of GTA Online and I am having a hard time judging the angle and position of that photo…..
If you look at the second image, you can see the tallest buildings on each side are flipped, but the first image is missing the skyscraper under construction with the crane, a fairly obvious landmark in the game. Secondly from the supposed angel you would see the two competing but identical agency buildings, which aren’t there.
The biggest giveaway is all the small buildings. If you look at the Los Santos map you will notice there is only a few buildings to the east of the downtown area before you hit the storm drain/aqueduct and bridges.
That’s not Los Santos

A gogogle image search pqroved you are indeed correct. Its about 10 posts down the page.
Damn kotaku where do you source this shit from??
The Google image search shows that most of the first two pages of image results attribute the image to Los Santos or GTA5. The image is widely misattributed, not just Kotaku.
Nek month: Someone Created a FPS mod that allows players to play Heist missions on Cities:Skylines Los Santos map (Now with laser hatchets!)
Someone will soon create the Cities: Skylines version of Los Santos in Minecraft
Everyone who worked for Maxis is just nodding their heads muttering I told you so right now.
Something like 11 people made this game.
Finally GTA5 on PC… Kinda
Reeally phoned in those comparison shots
*Here’s a picture of a dog from GTAV that doesn’t relate to the city or the landscape*
Journalist: “Eh, good enough comparison”
I love how on Kotaku, they can’t even be bothered to jump in the game and get some direct comparison shots at all. Instead it’s a promo picture, a map, and some completely unrelated real life photo of a city.
